7 am from Uvongo Beach 17 July 2024 Sardine and Conditions Update by Adam Kamdar

Uvongo Beach 7am 14 July 2024

7 am from Uvongo Beach 17 July 2024 Sardine and Conditions Update by Adam Kamdar

7 am from Uvongo Beach 17 July 2024 Sardine and Conditions Update by Adam Kamdar: A big thank you to Adam for heading down to the Uvongo Pier this morning and grabbing us a quick KZN Conditions and Sardine Report for today the 17 July 2024.

Sardines

Are still around. And more are still on their way. The water here in the Durban area is still at 23 degrees Celsius which is far too high for the sardines. So they are staying out deep.

Shad

Unfortunately, they have dragged the shad out with them. As Adam points out not one angler on the Uvongo Pier this beautiful morning. In another report later today we will be featuring more information on the whereabouts of the shad and the sardines.

In some recent footage published on Facebook, a baitball is being hammered by dolphins, sharks, gannets…and shad! The shad clearly think they are predators in the same class the above-mentioned crew. And can be seen swimming fearlessly into the bait ball. Terrorising the little baitball of sardines!

Garrick, Snoek, Kob

The 23-degree water is bad for sardines for sure. But it is prime water temperature for the gamefish that are around at the moment. All of the above-mentioned species are prolific right now. They may be hard to entice into a bite. Since they are all so full of sardines. But a well-placed spoon, plug, bucktail or plastic, in the right shoal at the right time and you could be in the game. Many snoek were taken from the shore this year. Plus one actual couta was taken at The SandSpit recently.

Stay tuned for more reports as they come in today!

The Bear delivers our 8AM KZN Ocean Conditions Report this slightly choppy winter morning

The Bear delivers todays KZN Ocean Conditions Report at 8AM 15 July 2024

The Bear delivers our 8AM KZN Ocean Conditions Report this slightly choppy winter morning

The Bear delivers our 8AM KZN Ocean Conditions Report this slightly choppy winter morning: A big thank you to The Bear for delivering our KZN 8AM Ocean Conditions Report. The Bear is standing in for Adam Kamdar who has taken some well-deserved time off in the bush.

Over to The Bear…

Conditions

Are quite choppy this morning. Morning sickness as it’s known in the classics. But with the promise of a light wind from the south after lunch, today could also turn out to be a peach.

The south west wind will airbrush that ocean into perfection where it will stay the next few days of tranquility.

The water is warm and crystal clear in most places. Divers are diving! And some noteworthy catches are being made. It is a very good idea, as a fisherman, to keep tabs on these spearos. They hold all the answers. They actually see the fish and what they are up to down there.

Follow these guys at The Master Watermen website at https://masterwatermen.co.za.

Tides

As is often associated with calm weather like this, the tides are in neaps. Hardly moving much with a low co-efficient making things even calmer. This is a great time to be an ocean-goer.

Sardines

Are nowhere to be seen at the moment. However, we don’t ever lose hope because just as suddenly as the sardines dissapear, they reappear. Often right into the summer months.

Sardine Run 2024 Sightings Map

You can stay hopeful by checking through the 2024 Sardine Run Sightings Map on The Sardine News website at https://thesardine.co.za/.

Sardine Netters on Durban Beach 7am 14 July 2024 by Adam Kamdar

7am Late Edition 14 July 2024 Sardine Netters on Durban Beachfront: another delightful Durban Beachfront KZN Conditions and Sardine Report by Adam Kamdar of Township Hyper. With sardine netters plying their trade right on the beach in front of the paddling pools.

Adam’s vantage point gives a comprehensive technical demonstration as to how the netters operate. The completely smooth and clear water demonstrates all the components of a netting exercise clearly.

Thank you and over to Adam…

.Sardine Netters on Durban Beach 7am 14 July 2024 by Adam Kamdar

Good morning, Durban, it’s. 7:34am just after sunrise. You can see the next high tide will be at 8. 39am and the low tide after that will be at 2:46pm.

Wind guru shows southwesterly winds today, moderate. Temperatures around 20 to 22 degrees. Wind final showing northwesterly winds. Offshore wind, southwesterly wind. Tides for fishing, the major period for fishing today is very high activity, from 4. 51am to 6. 51am. That’s shown in the graph, you can see it’s an exceptional time to be fishing.

The moon phase is the first quarter so it’s neap tides at the moment. Wave nets still not giving accurate readings, um, or reliable readings, but water temperature seems to be around 21 degrees. Next, we’ll have the sunrise view. And that’s the sun rising over the Durban beaches, and I’ll pan to the right and you’ll be able to see the sardine netters are in action already.

There’s one net dropped. You can see it clearly. You can see that arc. There’s one boat on the beach and one boat, uh, on the back line. Uh, the back line boat probably is trying to round up more sardines or, or round them up in the net. Maybe just push them closer to shore. Uh, we’ve got divers in the water.

You can see them splashing there. Let’s zoom in a bit more. You can see the two divers in the nets there. Creating a commotion to chase the sardines into the bag of the net. And there you have the crew on the beach, already hauling in the first net of sardines.

So the action is here on the Durban Beachfront guys, just opposite the paddling pools. If you want to see the action, come down. And stay tuned to thesardine.co.za.

7am this fishy Saturday 13 July 2024 KZN Conditions and Report by Township Hyper

7am this fishy Saturday 13 July 2024 KZN Conditions and Report by Township Hyper: thank you for tuning in to today’s KZN Conditions Report. Put together each day by Township Hyper and The Sardine News.

Over to Adam…

?Morning Durban. It’s now just before 7 a. m. Here’s your tides for the day. As you can see, it’s just after sunrise and high tide will occur at 8 o’clock and low tide at 2 p. m. Wind Guru shows settled conditions, light offshore wind for today. Freshening tomorrow and settle again on Monday. Tides for fishing shows, uh, 10 km per hour wind from the west and temperature of 16 degrees.

Pressure is 1017 and rising. Wave net, uh, the thermometer’s still not reading 100%, but, uh, sea temperature looks like around 22 degrees. Next we’ll have your sunrise view

and there we have a beautiful Durban sunrise. There’s lots of life in the sea. I spent the day out with good friends yesterday morning to celebrate my birthday. We had amazing action at the Blue Lagoon, Virginia area. First fish was an eight kilo Garrick caught by Lionel on 10 pound braid. The fish weighed 8.

1 kgs, an amazing catch on very light tackle. And the rest of the day saw so much, so many different species of fish. Uh, Novi even caught a chukka on his bait rod, uh, hammerhead shark, uh, there were snappers, shad, needle scale queenfish, um, yellowtail scads, The list goes on and on and on. And the sea is full of life, even on the south coast.

I’ve been getting, um, reports of lots of, uh, fishermen, um, dusting off their tackle and heading down to the sea. It’s really a great time to be fishing off Durban. Uh, in terms of sardines, we’ve seen some shoals passing by, um, the Bluff area and even, uh, Amshloti area. But it’s not accompanied by diving birds and dolphins, so most probably baitfish.

We also saw lots of baitfish out at sea. Great time to be fishing off Durban. Uh, stay tuned to the sardine. co. za.

ALMOST LIVE! Snoek and Garrick feature in this 7am Sardine and Conditions Report 12 July 2024

Snoek and Garrick at 7am 12 July 2024 KZN Conditions Report

ALMOST LIVE! Snoek and Garrick feature in this 7am Sardine and Conditions Report 12 July 2024

ALMOST LIVE! Snoek and Garrick feature in this 7am Sardine and Conditions Report 12 July 2024: Greetings from a very sunny Maputo! We are broadcasting from Fatima’s in Maputo and the reports came in quick smart this morning.

Enjoy today’s compilation…

Conditions

Have hardly changed and this is a great time to be in or on the ocean. Everything is stable with smooth seas and that still infamous warm water hovering about 23 degrees Celsius.

Too hot for sardines but great for surfers and spearos. And fish. Fish prefer moderate-temperature waters.

Garrick

Then we cross almost live to Adam and Nigel out off Blue Lagoon in Durban. Their second office! As they tussle with a powerful garrick on light tackle just beyond the backline.

And then just as we though they were done showing off, we get a pic of a delicious Queen Mackerel aka Natal Snoek. All during the sunrise.

Shad

Eddie Bunge kindly reported in all the way down at Splash Rock in Port Edward. It’s a magical scene with the shad on the bite and that huge backdrop of spray each time a set rolls in.

Spectacular!

Sardines

However Eddie also reported that he saw no birds, dolphins or whales…and particularly, no sardines down thataway. This is not to say there are no sardines. As with every year, late and lost shoals eventually show up over and over when nobody is expecting them to.
