07h30 19 July 2024 KZN Sardines possibly on Strike

07h30 19 July 2024 KZN Sardines on Strike: due to there being no winter here in KZN, the KZN Sardines have gone on strike.

Adam Kamdar of Township Hyper in Durban has been on tour down the KZN South Coast recently. But is back in the office in Durban and today early brings us a fun report right from South Beach.

Over to Adam…

KZN Sardines on Strike

Then just as soon as we had published that video, Adam got the following action shots right from in the corner.

We don’t know the result as of 8 am. It might be mackerel or red-eye sardines that are making all the fuss this lovely westerly wind morning down on Durban Beachfront.

Stay tuned more further updates and news as it breaks all day long…

11h30 18 July 2024 Sardine Update from Winkelspruit

11h30 18 July 2024 Sardine Update from Winkelspruit

11h30 18 July 2024 Sardine Update from Winkelspruit

11h30 18 July 2024 Sardine Update from Winkelspruit: roving reporter Adam is heading back up to Durban from some time out on the KZN South Coast. And has stopped to update us on the sardines and the conditions relevant to them.

Over to Adam…

Not all Bad News

The wind blowing so breezily today is from the east and is known to chill the water. As opposed to the south wind which warms it up so lekka. It’s a weird quandary to be in. We love the warm water but the sardines love it icy!?

With so many more shoals being spotted way down south and still on their way, and the fact that it is still only July, means we can still expect sardines to pop up anytime.

11 am 18 July 2024 Rocky Bay Shad and Karanteen Report by Adam Kamdar

11am 18 July 2024 Rocky Bay Shad and Karanteen Report by Adam Kamdar

11 am 18 July 2024 Rocky Bay Shad and Karanteen Report by Adam Kamdar

11 am 18 July 2024 Rocky Bay Shad and Karanteen Report by Adam Kamdar: In crystal clear water conditions, Adam updates us from the beach at Rocky Bay on the KZN South Coast.

Shad

There are the odd shad available for an argument. In the crystal water you can sometimes see them in the white water in front of the backline sandbank. In this channel is where shad like to hunt.

Karanteen

Are guaranteed at Rocky Bay today. The tasty little fish are aggressive as hell and love to eat on a fresh piece of sardine bait. They are also on the list of top live baits of all time.

Daga Salmon

If you can get a live karanteen out into the same channel as the shad were during the day, you gonna get your data salmon. They are right there, lurking just behind the shad. Who are just behind the karanteen.

Garrick

That same live karanteen will get you in trouble with a marauding garrick at this time of the year. Once again, you don’t have to cast out far. Those garrick also love to hunt in the shallows and sometimes chase the shad and things right up the beach.

They are here for the sardines too and will probably hang around waiting for them like us too.

Snoek

There is still time to get you snoek from the beach or the rocks. You need good weather with calm seas and clear water. This way you can sight fish to the snoek as they shoal past.

This clean and warm water is a huge bonus for us at the moment. We sure hope you are all appreciated this good weather. Because the windy months are coming!

7am 18 July 2024 Fishing and Sardine Report from Shelley Beach Slipway by Adam Kamdar

9am 18 July 2024 Report from Shelley Beach Slipway

7am 18 July 2024 Fishing and Sardine Report from Shelley Beach Slipway by Adam Kamdar

7am 18 July 2024 Fishing and Sardine Report from Shelley Beach Slipway by Adam Kamdar: Adam is out as roving reporter checking in today right from the slipway at Shelley Beach down on the KZN lower south coast.

Wind

The wind is up! As we move into spring tides this week, the winds look to be heading for their usual argument as stiff north winds are countered by stiff south winds daily. Neap tides most often host the good weather conditions we have recently being enjoying.

And now we are actually heading straight into windy season too. August it really starts though. And in KZN, September and October – it bloooooows!

And at the other end of the spectrum, up in Vilankulos in Mozambique, the weather is absolutely delightful in these three months. Day after day of bliss whilst in KZN, we are being blown away!

Check out all we have on offer in our Trips and Travel section. If you want to try Mozambique out, let us ease the pain of organising it all. We do it all for you. Accommodation, boats, charters, tours.

Waves

Well it’s flat and east today. But there is promise in the form of rumours drifting up from down south. You can check out these rumours yourself at https://brucifire.co.za. As Bruce comments us through a lovely direction swell that surprised even Bruce this very morning.

This next month will be producing great mornings of offshores. Many swells coming up to meet them. Sand still a problem in the places that need.

Water

This east wind will be not be helping with the water clarity. It is still acceptable in some places though. Today some spearos will surely have decent water and fish to report.

But the south winds that are around the corner, will clean things up one more time and the weekend spring tides should be a lot of fun.
