The boys were well under gunned for most of the GT´s we encountered. The tackle they brought was way to light to stop those fish from reefing us and all of the really big Giant Kingfish we hooked were just to strong to stop!!! The boys did however release some decent fish up to about 12 kg on poppers and stick baits as well as some other species.
450 lbs Black Marlin for Aaron Atkins
Aaron Atkins and his son Andres come for a second visit to Bazaruto to fish with us. Their first visit three years ago produced 3 Black Marlin for Aaron in as many days. Given the conditions this time they did not get so many fish but amongst all the yellowfin, sharks, wahoo and other game fish Aaron did manage to release an estimated 450 lbs Black, his biggest Marlin to date….well done Aaron!!!

September is know for the arrival of many big wahoo around the Bazaruto archipelago and even tough we are certainly having a late start to the season and conditions have not been what we are used to this time of the year some of these fast speedster’s have showed up giving some great fun.
Biggest caught so far was 31kg and we have had a numerous fish pass the 25 kilo mark…
Keith Cooke and Jose Rungu joined me on a hunt out deep yesterday. We were searching for a yellowfin for bait when after 2 hours a rod screamed and a yellowfin it was. But a big one (for these waters) gave us the gears, tangling everything in the rough seas and strong wind. And certainly too big for bait.
But there was no sign of the 5kg bait size tuna that have been so prolific lately. And not a bird in sight. Unless you count tunny ducks (Gannets) diving into the depths after the sardines and another baitfish around the Barra mouth area.
Then on our way into the shallows to try for a couta, a dorado jumped on a black feather at the back of a daisy chain. Jose Rungu made short of work of it and as got into 5m of water, we got our couta!
