Perfect waves at Lalaland, Praia daTofo

One good thing about the north east – when it blows a few days hard as it does in Springtime on the African east coast – it builds up a unique short period but strong swell. It also always precedes a cold front. The stronger the wind, the stronger the front.

So as the switch over occurs, for a few hours, the southerly blows straight into the north east swell, and bang…check the pic again.

With some luck regards sandbanks and timing, the waves came through in front of Lalaland in Tofo, Inhambane, Southern Mozambique on Sunday. For about 4 hours, through the new moon spring tide, it just kept hammering through. East swells are generally more consistent, and stronger. Think mini cyclone swell and conditions.

Chad Leavitt, co-owner of Lalaland, snapped the pics on his S4 and remarked that they were the best waves he has seen in front of their guesthouse, since he has been here, on and off for 7 years. Lalaland is a walk down the beach from the Tofo market and offers unique self catering accomodation, for reasonable prices. Lalaland features solar power and a well equipped communal kitchen, and is right on the beach.
