News from our Sponsor – MYDO Fishing Lures

There might not be too much more ocean user news coming in from yesterday or today. So I would just like to talk about MYDO Fishing Lures quick. There are still gonna be those big crocodile Couta swimming about KZN. Even down south. The water is so warm they will be very comfortable around here at the moment. And there is so much bait. Mackerel, shad, sardines…to keep these big fish hanging around.

It has been a helluva season for big couta up in Mozambique this year. So many big fish.

And these big fish are mean. Over 30 kilograms and they wreak havoc on your terminal tackle. MYDO Lures has developed the MYDO Couta Spread just for these big fish. We tie them up using double-wire droppers to the 5X ultra-sharp treble hooks. We make them telescopic so that your trace will always have a hook right in the tail. Where it counts the most for king mackerel attack behaviour.

They take the propellor (tail) off first, and then argue over the remains. Our traces are also rigid in design. Gone are the days of ugly hooks hanging down off a bait. With these rigid rigs, the hooks help each other stay in place.

You can use modern-day MYDOs with live or dead baits. That is the point. If you have a lively, on it goes on the trace. If the lively dies, bend the rigour mortise out – and let it back out into the spread. Where it will perform just as well as if it was alive.

There are 6 traces in all, in the MYDO Couta Spread. From tiny little Stripbaitswimmers that take a shiny fillet or a tiny sardine. Through the mid-range that handles sardine, shad, and mackerel. And then the heavy-duty kit for really big live baits or long baits like walla-walla.

MYDO Couta Spread – The Sardine News

Please get in touch directly rather though. There is a big WhatsApp button on the screen somewhere that you can use for a direct line to the factory. This way we can connect and chat about where you will be fishing and what fish you’re after. And we can formulate a strategy together. We also prepare reports and charts for anglers going to new areas. Mozambique, KZN and Eastern Cape mainly.

Sardine Maps

Having intel to make the right decisions can save you hours and hours of frivolous sardine hunting. We have taken great care to log the activity of each sardine run since 2021. These records are available for anyone to look at.

If you study the maps year to year, you will see that right now we are only just in the middle of good  sardine conditions. And that in previous years catches were made right into the summer months.
