Spearing by Jason

Many thanks to Kzn’s Jason Heyne for this week’s, and every weeks spearfishing news…

“The diving conditions this week have been below average. But if you can find decent water there are good fish around. Saturday the southwest continues to blow with the swell running at 1.4m. Sunday a light onshore blows with the swell running at 1.3m. As to where its going to clean up is anyone’s guess. I’m leaning towards Sunday as the best dive day. The wahoo@duc Garrick and Cray comp went well with quite a few people weighing in. Well done Donovan on getting your name on the shield. Sunday our species shore dive comp is on and promises to be a good one with quite a few entrants and the weather forecast is great. There are some really great prizes thanks to out sponsors Freedivers, Ecopure filters Ballito, JMM Power Tools, Fairship KZN and Eco Tanks. The weigh in is at 14H00 Wings club Virginia Airport and I hope to see you all there. As always dive safe and straight spears.”

KZN Underwater News

KZN Underwater News

Conditions this week have been below average with a small gap on Wednesday. Good garrick still coming out with dagas still on the wrecks and deeper ledges. The sodwana comp was won by a young guy from Richards bay who deserved the prize. Well done on a 28kg GT stone shot! Apparently everyone was trying to vie for 1st place hangover! The sea conditions are settling nicely for the weekend with Saturday marginal conditions wize and Sunday a pearler of a day. South is the better option with north viz being 3m or less. As always dive safe and straight spears.

This week underwater with Jason Heyne

This week underwater with Jason Heyne

Jason Heyne is right in the current when it comes to what’s cutting underwater, up and down the KZN Coast…

“Well below average diving conditions this week with the August winds kicking in gear. Tuesday and Wednesday morning were diveable with the garrick patrolling as the east picked up late morning. A south west wind will follow close on the heels of the north east today improving conditions and settling the sea. Saturday you might find some cleaner water far south coast. Light to variable winds Sunday with a 1m swell running should make it a cracker day. If you have the time Cape Vidal and Sodwana have been producing some good fish! Please be aware that there is a whale carcass in the Scottborough area which has been attracting some very large sharks and 2 divers were chased out the water at Brighton on the bluff this week by a 4m great white. As always dive safe and straight spears. “

Many thanks Jason!
