Gareth Brocket 29kg Winning Fish DSBC Festival

Here is the WINNING Fish for DSBC Festival 2025

Here is the WINNING Fish for DSBC Festival 2025: and it’s a wrap! The well attended festival once again produced the fish and a 29 kg couta by Gareth Brockett took top honour and the boat!

Winner Gareth Brockett with his almost 30kg croc couta!

27th of April 2025

And it’s the final day of the Durban Skiboat Club
Festival competition
Durban Each year very cool event
I’ve fished it a few times
I never came anywhere
anyway first prize over half a million
not exactly sure of the details
but I’ll put them on the screen here when I find them
cool hey
so who’s gonna win well
I don’t know because I put this video together now
and we’ll get the results later
and then I’ll stick them in
and then we’ll publish the video
then you’ll know who won so in the meantime
all I got for you is day 1
beautiful Natal winter unbelievable conditions
just pure off shores blowing
just the most beautiful scene
thank you Adam Kamdar
for capturing this so nicely and creatively l
like you did anyway
the only challenge was really the water
tainted with that runoff from the floods
from the days before little bit of brown going in there
all manners of other things too
but the brown is the problem
but some boats took up the challenge
and found the water and they found a fish
some big fish weighed well
I saw one particularly nice fish
alright day 2 today wow
Natal in winter
you just can’t beat it when it plays the game
we’re not quite in winter yet
but April’s always got a bad reputation for rain
don’t plan your holidays in April
go in may rather May is the best month around here
but yeah day 2
equally lush and once again
Adam captured the the
the scene so beautifully from his vantage point
but now we wait until this afternoon or this evening
whenever it is when they announce the winner
then I’ll put the winner’s name in here
and hopefully a picture and we will have the results
in the meantime thanks for watching

Ahah and the winner is…

Gareth Brockett

okay don’t forget to like and subscribe
maybe join the channel
if you want to know everything about the sardines
but lekker thank you for watching Ciao Ciao

Blue Lagoon Garrick Report by Sean Lange and Adam Kamdar 8am 26 October 2024

Blue Lagoon Garrick Report by Sean Lange and Adam Kamdar 8am 26 October 2024

Blue Lagoon Garrick Report by Sean Lange and Adam Kamdar 8am 26 October 2024: Another fun Saturday for KZN ocean users! Light winds from the south all day. Starting nice and offshore and swinging around to a gentle east angle. Not picking up at all.

Adam Kamdar is out there making the most of the cool conditions and sent in this clip before 8am! “That’s Him” fighting and boating a double-figures looking garrick out off the Blue Lagoon area.

There are many boats and oceancrafts out there looking for live bait and a chance at a tough-fighting garrick fish. Adam is going to be sending in more action clips from the water through the day. His next one is already in!

If you value this kind of real-time information be sure to Subscribe and importantly, click on the Notification Bell and make sure you are set to ALL. This means that these reports will get to you on time. As they happen…

Blue Lagoon Garrick Report Two by Adam Kamdar on the water

This time it’s charter boat Simply the Best who has not one, but two garrick on the line. This video focuses mainly on the fish at the back of the boat. The cabin gets in the way of seeing the second fish being handled from the starboard bow.

Adam reports many boats out having a fun day. Weirdly enough, this is the second Saturday in a row that has panned out so nicely. Those are good statistics for this time of the year. As we expect a beast of an east to start early tomorrow and destroy the ocean in no time flat. Maybe the very early birders will get a line wet or catch a wave or two.

The divers will be getting in very early tomorrow for sure and we all look forward to the next Bear report from the Master Watermen website. There must be some clean patches somewhere up or down the coast for the okes to dive in.

Synoptic

More reports to follow throughout the day…

Sardines n Sighting Maps

It has been a fantastic sardine run this memorable 2024. And all the action has been logged right here on The Sardine News. This year’s map has been viewed 188,000 times and keeps growing.

Which led us to decide to keep the map live. And keep adding unique marine animal sightings and events. That occurs non-stop all year round. This year we started to log more whale and dolphin sightings. And we even had a shipwreck! And a freaking tornado! And recently a capsized KZNSB boat!

These events will from now on be included in the Sardine News Sightings Map for 2024. And on the 1 January 2025, we shall start all over again.

Monday More Fun Day for KZN Surfers by Adam Kamdar in Surf City

Surf City 14 October 2024 Durban KZN by Adam Kamdar

Monday More Fun Day for KZN Surfers by Adam Kamdar in Surf City

Monday More Fun Day for KZN Surfers by Adam Kamdar in Surf City: Welcome back to the sardine news. We have Adam Kamdar checking from what has turned out to be another surfing day in KZN and Durban in particular.

Over to Adam Kandar at North Beach in Surf City…

Durban

Monday More Fun Day for Surfers in KZN by Adam Kamdar on the Spot at North Beach in the famous Surf City that is Durban in South Africa.

Good time to be a surfer as the swell promises to build all day long. And reach a massive pulse tomorrow. Up to 5 meters at the crack of dawn! Obviously for this time of the year, the wind has agreed to join the party and will be cranking through at an enormous rate of knots.

SW

Gusts of up to 40 knots, which equates to like 80kmh, will punctuate the strong south-westerly tomorrow too. It looks to be at least 15 or 20 knots all day long. Only backing off on Tuesday night.

NE

The northeaster is plotting its big comeback from Wednesday morning and into Thursday all day. It’s gonna come charging in as early as it can, and will steadily build all day long reaching a maximum of about 15 knots in the afternoon.

With a low tide at 8:45am on Wednesday, that morning is going to produce the goods for any surfers who can make it out through that pounding surf. Before the NE makes it too bumpy.

And although Durban will get some SW juice that day, it will be nothing like what the south and north coasts will look like that morning. Lines to the horizon and light winds until the tide turns. As the tide turns from low to high water moving in – that’s about when the onshore NE will start to pick up. Before that, the tide will be draining fast and little offshores will spring up all over to compensate for the fast-receding water and therefore air pressure. As the tide drains, it sucks air off the land to create those regional and sporadic offshores, in the face of prevailing high pressure systems. The east ruins this quicksmart so you got to get in early as possible in these situations.

Fishing

The fishing has been excellent everywhere. Kob and garrick making up for most of the excitement. With the odd handsome brushed in between. We will see exactly what fish are about with the Bear Report coming in later today. This valuable information will be posted right here on The Sardine News at around 5pm.

Over to Adam Kandar in Durban…

Durban

Adam greets the South Wind coming in at Durban today 7am 11 October 2024: Ok back in Durban we have a sneaky little pair of low pressures holding back the east today. Adam Kamdar is on the scene early and reports on an unruly ocean today.

But with plenty of potential for the weekend as indicators indicate low swells, low winds and sunny skies!

All you have to do is choose a beach!

Thank you Adam.

Sharks Board Upside Down at Isipingo

Who needs protecting from who?

Sharks Board Capsize at Isipingo in rough seas this morning – but who was swimming anyway?

With the recent great white shark tail washing up on the rocks at St Mike’s on the KZN South Coast recently, the Kwazulu Natal Sharks Board once again put themselves under the spotlight.

And today, they capsized an expensive vessel. With five souls on board. On a day when nobody should be in or on the water.

Anybody following the Sardine Reports would know that the swell is an unruly 2m plus. The wind is ugly as hell onshore. These two factors combined means that nobody should go out there. For anything. Least of all to mesh shark nets that kill dolphins, whales and great whites. Tigers too. Turtles. Rays. This is a very long list and you can read all about it on the Sardine News.

7am on 2 Oct 24 Beach Day in KZN by Adam Kamdar in Durban

2 October 24 by Adam Kamdar in Durban

7am on 2 Oct 24 Beach Day in KZN by Adam Kamdar in Durban

7am on 2 Oct 24 Beach Day in KZN by Adam Kamdar in Durban: A strong and intent high-pressure system has moved over the country and is pushing those low-pressure systems coming in from the south right out to sea. This means sunny skies and clear days for a few days throughout South Africa. Well into and past the weekend. Finally, we have a decent weather break.

Today seems to be unfolding quite chilly though what with the snow in the Eastern Cape cooling the southwest winds. That here in Sheppy are up to a goodly 15 knots or more. A far cry from the forecaster’s 6 to 8 knots. Right now we may be gusting 22 or 25 even. Maybe not a bathing or tanning day. Surfers are having fun though. Maybe the odd diver will brave that big south swell down the coast. Fisherfolk are out and about at the usual haunts.

Onshore Winds

The only downside of the big high-pressure is gonna be the constant onshore winds. Each day starting peachy like a proper summer morning, the wind is going to build as the days unfold.

The early bird gets the worm on summer mornings like these coming up.

Fishing

These are, however, great fishing conditions. And although you are not allowed to catch shad (not even for bait), it is Kobtober. And there certainly are garrick around. Today is a perfect garrick hunting day if you can find a beach without huge waves crashing in. Like Blue Lagoon as Adam refers to today in his report…

Over to Adam Kamdar in Durban…

Thank you Adam Kamdar in Durban

So, from tomorrow, we should be plain sailing. We have plenty fisherfolk checking in at the Umzimkulu Marina in Port Shepstone. Where The Sardine News is currently broadcasting from.

The next reports will feature here as the day unfolds. We will send out a notification with each update. It’s even easier to stay on top of things if you have installed The Sardine News on your device. And said YES to receive notifications. That way you might never miss a single sardine!

Alan KZN South Coast

As good as you could expect at The Block this morning…we shall hear later what went down.

Thank you Allan!
