“Hey Guys,

Hope all good.

Attached a few pictures of a 72 kg (159 pounds) Yellowfin Tuna we got yesterday. We also missed a Blue Marlin looking between 5-600 pounds.

Happiness is…

This is exactly double the size of the biggest YFT I had caught in 14 years in Bazaruto and (as far as I know) the biggest ever caught in the area and Mozambique???

Wowser!

We missed another (it was a double strike) and saw them busting twice right next to the boat on two occasions and believe me there were bigger fish in between them!

The fish was caught on a legend Lures Krakatoa on the long rigger  out wide on a short butt stand up 80#.

We had a two day charter and after a slow first day chasing sailfish (very green water and no bait) we decided to put the big guns out and go out wide and look for an elusive Blue Marlin (it is July after all).

Cheers,

Duarte”

Yowser Duarte…! Send them down to us please!!!

Cape Verde marlin bite comes to a fantastic close: by Captain Duarte Rato

Cape Verde marlin bite comes to a fantastic close: by Captain Duarte Rato

“Hi Sean,

My season in Cape Verde is over which is a pity as the bite is still going really strong. But, time to get back home after a short stop in Lisbon for a week and get the boat ready for the Marlin Season at Bazaruto.

In total Blue Marlin numbers for Cape Verde were;

Raised:       81

Strikes:       52

Hook-up:     41

Releases:    36

So we averaged just above 2 Marlin a day and I would say the fishes’ average weight were around 250 to 300 pounds with a few 400´s and the biggest a solid 500 – not BIg fish but the numbers certainly make up for it!!!!

Epic stuff brother!!!!”

Insane Cape Verde blue marlin bite continues!

Insane Cape Verde blue marlin bite continues!

by Captain Duarte Rato

“Hey brother and the insane bite continues…

This morning we only fished a half day (5 hours) because our clients had to catch a plane back home….but we made it count and released 2 out of three fish.

The first fish come in hot on the teasers 15 minutes after we started and switched on the big ballyhoo pitch bait – hookup and release!

An h0ur later we get another one up on the short left teaser and hookup again. The fish, about 350 put on a great fight on the stand up #50 (that´s all we fishing) before release.

Before getting back we still had another that jumped as the client was feeding and never hooked up…

Two blues before lunch ain´t bad!!!!”

Duarte Rato in Cape Verde

Duarte Rato in Cape Verde

Captain Duarte Rato checked in with us, all the way from the Cape Verde Islands, where he is working a blue marlin season this time of year.

First day out we started with hooking a double header 20 minutes after we set the spread and the action was hot the all day. We ended up raising a total of 6 Marlin, with 4 strikes, 4 hookup´s and 3 releases.”

More to follow as the season in Cape Verde gets underway…

“Man this place is insane…. yesterday had 5 up, got 4 bites and released 3.

This morning only fished 5 hours ´cause the clients catching a plane and got 3 bites and released 2, all on pitch baits.

Will send you reports and photos of last two days later.”\
