MYDO Flying Fish Instructions #dorado #snoek #shad #couta #sailfish: The new MYDO Flying Fish has been racking up serious results lately. Epic trips to faraway places, and fishing tournaments “in da bag”, are but just a few pieces of feedback.
The MYDO is still by far and away the best kept fishing secret in the world. Back in the days of retail (we only sell online now), the MYDO was reputed that half of all fish caught in tournaments in 1991 (Natal, South Africa), were caught on a MYDO.
Since we changed from pure lead to an epoxy composite, we received some backlash from loyal die-hards. But these guys are missing out as the new MYDOs actually swim with a side-to-side motion, as opposed to simply keeping the bait upright. They also feature a prismatic light show as the sun beats through the epoxy and goes all over the show. And the glow-in-the-dark glitter colouring rounds the whole remodelling off.

In KZN, Mozambique, Madagascar and those toothy islands all around them, wire is a must on the hook droppers. Double #6 is recommended; string the hooks over the fish on top so they can’t be seen easily. Leaders can be #4 or #5 in Durban (those guys fish light), but up in the tropics, #6 or even #7 is fine, and will last longer.
The MYDO Flying Fish also works great as a shad bait/lure combination. Put a cork on the line so that the lure can’t go in the rocks. Chuck it out there (with or without bait), wind slowly and hold on tight!
The MYDO Flying Fish was designed to catch dorado aka mahi mahi without having to feed the fish upon the strike. The little super strong and sharp wire treble in the tail of the bait makes sure you never miss a strike. You can put the drag on and forget about it, the dorado has no time to grab that bait and get it away from his mates, he just goes vas on first touch. In dorado season, sailfish and marlin also pitch up, so a nylon leader (200lb or more), will be more effective than fragile wire, when the acrobatics start.
