7 AM KZN Sea Conditions Report 2 July 2024 by Adam Kamdar: a big good morning and a thank you to Adam Kamdar of Township Hyper for delivering the sea conditions report for us today.

?Good morning, Durban. It’s 2nd of July, Tuesday, 7 a. m. The sun is coming up and it coincides with today’s low tide. The next high tide will be at around 1 p. m. Windguru shows northeasterly winds for the afternoon, two meter swells. A very short wave period, so that’ll make the sea quite choppy today. Wind speed at the moment is 11 kilometers per hour from the north, and the air temperature is 17 degrees.

Pressure is stable at 1022. Sea temperature is around 21 degrees, still too warm in Durban. There was action along the south coast from Waterbeach area, Kingsborough area, but the sardines are still finding it too warm to reach Durban. Next, we’ll have your sunrise view.

As predicted, a little bit choppy today. You can feel the winds picking up. It will freshen in the afternoon. Make it even more bumpy. Forgive the hoarse voice. We had lots of fun out at sea yesterday. Driving amongst the sugar mackerel shoals and catching some nice fish at, uh, number one, some bonnies and a nice yellow-edged rock cod.

What do Dolphins eat for Breakfast? 6:30 am 1 July 2024 KZN report by Adam: the solstice has passed and the sun is getting out of bed earlier every day. Enabling Adam and The Sardine News team to be even earlier with the Durban sardine news each day.

Adam kicks the week off with a positive report about baitfish filling the Durban Bay area. With predators moving in and making the most of the tidy winter conditions, this morning could be a precedent for a great week of sardine-filled fun on the beach.

Where are the Sardines Right Now?

There are so many shoals spread out all along this vast coastline that I don;t quite know where to start. But ok, let’s start way down south in the Mgazana area yesterday. This is hundreds of kilometres south of Durban and it will take these substantial shoals a good week or so to get to KZN. Our Ocean Safari boats were right in on the action and you can see that video in yesterdays Noon time report.

Between the Wild Coast Sun and Glenmore Beach (Port Edward in between), it was classic sardine run activity. Gannets leading the charge with dolphins, sharks and gamefish right behind them. These fish pitched up later off Margate and Manaba and are seemingly hell-bent on getting to Durban today.

As for the shoals that overshot the Durban mark, well they are scattered all over the place by the prevailing warm water. These sardines will be down deep trying to find the cold water that they are used to. As soon as some cold water pops up from the depths, the sardines caught inside it will go wherever it goes. And this could be the nearest beach to you.

Tides are Neap

The tides have turned around completely and today it is high tide at high noon. However, we are in the neap tide pattern which means the tide moves in and out a lot less than with the spring tide. There will be less current. Less shorebreak. Amazing weather in neaps.

So if you have made the journey to KZN to get in on the sardine action, today from high tide, all the way to low tide, is a great opportunity to find them trapped on the inside. Rock pools. Gulleys. Channels.

“Welcome back to a fantastic Sardine Sunda? here on the sunny KZN south coast. All the way up to Durban, there are sardines everywhere! But the main thing is this net went in at Warner beach couple nets went in at Warner beach and the okes are cooking So if you really want to get in on the action, this is your day sardine sundae head down the coast Okay, I’m going to leave Warner beach now. I’m going to show you something else in Port Edward. Check this out Yeah, so there you have it. There are still sardines coming towards Durban Right now, I put Edward and Glenmore. I wonder if they might be at about Ramsgate by now, Margate next. Up the afternoon, Scottburgh, the end places, but in the meantime, we’re gonna go even further down south and check things out. Yeah, Can you Adam and Eve it? This is Mpame. It’s off Mgazana area that these sardines are still coming past and check out all these little sardines are trying to hide from the dolphins underneath the boat because they’re, yeah, that’s the only place you can seek refuge. Durban in the Morning

Morning guys, it’s Sunday the 30th of June 2024, time is just past 7. 30, as you can see we’ve passed a low tide just after 4am, we’ve got the incoming tide now, next high tide will be around 10. 30. Windguru shows settled conditions, very little wind, low swell, long swell period, so lovely fishing conditions.

Current wind is 10kmph. Northwest. Temperature is 17 degrees. Pressure is 102. 2 and stable. Wave net is showing water temperatures off Durban is dropping. Still a little too warm for the sardines but at least it’s in the right direction. Sardine action yesterday. There was netting at Pennington and Scottborough.

Still plenty of sardines around. Lots of shoals in the deep. Next, we’ll have our sunrise view. So these are the conditions off Durban. Beautiful settled conditions. Not much of a wave for the surfers but Lots of boats launched today. There are still about 10 boats out at the bait spot at the North Breakwater.

And I counted about 15 boats fishing at the Blue Lagoon, Virginia area. I don’t know if there’s Garrick action there, or if everyone’s trying for snook this morning, but lots of boats on the water. I’ll be heading out to sea later, and stay tuned for more updates. If we come across shoals of sardines out at sea, we’ll definitely post to thesardine.co.za.

“Good morning, everyone. It’s Saturday, June 29th, 7 a.m. We’ve just passed the last low tide at around 3 a.m., and the next high tide is expected at about 9 a.m. The Wind Guru forecast predicts a pleasant day with temperatures mostly around 20 degrees, minimal swell, and light winds—ideal conditions for fishing and a promising outlook for Sunday and Monday as well. The fishing tides indicate a northwest wind blowing at 8 kilometres per hour with an atmospheric temperature of 16 degrees. The atmospheric pressure stands at 1022 and is stable. WaveNet suggests a decreasing trend in water temperature, yet it remains around 21 degrees, which is slightly warmer than ideal. Sardines have been sighted from Winklespruit to Amanzimtoti. Keep an eye out for more activity heading towards the Durban beachfront. Coming up next, we’ll catch the sunrise view. And here it is, the sun rising over the Golden Mile. The conditions are perfect for fishing, though the waves may disappoint surfers. Expect chilly winter conditions in Durban with temperatures staying between 20 to 22 degrees throughout the day, partly cloudy skies, and little wind. Shad Fishermen

I don’t know how to go about insulting the hordes of shad fishermen trashing every single beach that they go to. I would like to insult their parentage. Their schooling? Their sense of decency? Their ethics? Their morals? I mean, which part don’t you get?

Don’t litter the friggin beaches. You bunch of senseless, disgusting and filthy individuals.

You know exactly who you are.

But I would like to acknowledge and thank the handful of people, none of them shad fishermen, that do help authorities deal with this despicable bunch’s trail of trash. And help clean up after said morons.

Garrick Fishermen

Moving on to the Garrick. The limit is 2 per day. This is not negotiable just because the DAFF okes have their hands full. If you remove a whole shoal of garrick, there isn’t another shoal around the corner waiting to take its place. They are of a finite number and our garrick population are completely isolated here.
