As this report in from Marc Lange demonstrates, the fishing in Angola is WILD…
“Basically you fish with very thick hand line and for the rainbow runner and rockcod you got to chum when the vessel does crew change with the Billy Pew ( big basket ) or doing back loading which is when they load drill strings and containers onto the vessel.Ā These fish live around the rig and we see them when doing the work diving.
For the tuna you use jigs, they are big eye and the one diver Shaun Swanevelder got one of about 40kg. We catch so many we hate them after awhile. They not as kiff as the dorado for eating.
Angola fish stories…Marc Lange hoists a bull of a Dorado.
Since tablets and mobiles have begun their onslaught…responsive web design has been a new buzzword. It means that web pages automatically redesign themselves, to work with whatever device is used to access it with. Great! Well, in theory, but we do have to adapt our work to this new revelation.
Some of my clients are super photographers (Read Captain Duarte Rato), and they work to certain parameters, when framing and taking a shot. They are all about impact and filling the viewfinder with action, telling a complete story – often times using powerful lenses to get right into the mix.
Telling a story with your single frame photograph is what it’s all about. And thenĀ a responsive web design Ā getsĀ hold of your perfect image!
Firstly, most of us and our ways prefer landscape shots. It’s the wider perspective that adds dynamism and it tries to emulate how we see things every day. Spaces are used in telling the story…and the wide shot can tell a lot more than the portrait – especially on a landscape screen.
The incredible rule of thirds, throws the important part of the picture – the subject – into either a corner, one side, or top or bottom stripe, and sometimes, the centre.
Now a responsive theme has to re-render that image, to work in landscape, and in portrait. And this is how great images get sliced into pieces.
The solution. Yip. But someĀ ain’t gonna like it…frame your Ā shots like this…
This image, by photographer Captain Duarte Rato, works across all platforms and devices. Note the shaded areas indicated the crops taken when re-sampling from landscape to portrait…a guide to help you avoid responsive image destruction (c) Duarte Rato
…or choose shots for your full page slider website – that focus the subject in the centre.
One more thing –Ā full page responsive sliders achieve far more impact than any other layout, but there is even a second trade-off. Since we are loading the highest resolution we can to cater for big screen presentations and even retina displays (the internal workings between device and server decide the resolution finally delivered), it makes good sense then to choose uncluttered imagery, especially backgrounds – and rather focus your available reolution/bandwidth available, on that subject in the centre of your shot. This makes a huge difference in the size of the file. Blurred backgrounds are highly recommended!
Doing this right can cut your load times incredibly.
Choose your full screen responsive slider images wisely!
Margate Beach taken over by small fry…by Jay Steenkamp
Jay Steenkamp, our on the spot Go Pro specialist, reports that whilst surfing Margate (?) the other day, the backline was inundated with these cool looking little fishies. What they are is still a mystery at this point. Jay and the staff (ha ha) of thesardine.co.za are trying to find out and we will keep you posted.
A Captain’s Blog in from Senhor Carlos Carvalho, launchingĀ out of Club Maritimo, fishing off Maputo – ace out!
“Wednesday 19 Nov. 2014 Maputo / Inhaca Island Mozambique I launched my beloved TSUTSUMA myself at 4.30am where it is kept at Clube Maritimo – Maputo. The Sea conditions was perfect.
Reaching a new fishing spot that a good friend gave me I decided to try a brand new Rapala with a new Dorado like bright green color – it just looked yummy to me.
WHAT A GREAT CHOICE THAT WAS because 90% of my Game Fish was caught on this very Rapala.
7 “YFT” Yellow Fin Tuna
3 “GT’s Giant Trivially
It was Fun and Games a couple of times will Double Ups and Me being alone on my boat had to keep my boat running forward to keep the tension on the second fish hooked until I could boat the fish I was fighting.
I must say all luck was on my side and I did not lose any fish that was hooked on Double Ups.
Fantastic angling and boating day for me – just what I needed – some SALT WATER THERAPY.
Arriving at MANICO CAMP INHACA I was met on the beach by the Staff that assisted in offloading my boat.
A boat attendant was allocated.
He washed my boat and motor down with fresh water and cleaned the fish that I kept for personal use.
WOW – what service that was while I was sitting in the shade under a massive Mozambican Wild Fig Tree having ice cold 2M beer.
Thank you Theresa Nel and her husband “Manico Camp Managers” for making Me feel so Special – you are great hosts.
Thank you to Manie Snyman and Hester Bekker Snyman for the invite to your stunning Island Lodge – it sure is paradise.”
Fishing off Maputo is big stories this time of the year…Carlos Carvalho caught most of his fish this day on his trusty Chartreuse Rapala.
Many thanks to Carlos Carvalho for allowing us to publish his stories on thesardine.co.za!
