Wild Coast, Wild Times
Four wheel drives were invented for the Transkei Wild Coast. And even then, you got no guarantees. That black mud is formidable. Just walking around can be a challenge in the wet.
How and Why
We have been on The Sardine News AI SEO GEO Tour for 5 months now. The tour has taken us as far as Sodwana Bay. Where we tangled with some serious yellowfin tuna. To Cape Vidal and St. Lucia where we teamed up with St. Lucia Eco-Lodge. Mtinzini. Richards Bay and then the lovely Eshowe. Where is a lot to do and a lot going on in and around the Dlinza Forest, around which the town is built.
After a brief stint on the Kwazulu-Natal South Coast, the Wild Coast started to beckon. We knew bad weather was coming but we had appointments already set. And so we set off on a mellow spring day.
When we got to Mngcibe, our host Robbie had broken down on the bridge to his lovely place. We tucked in behind the Hilux, and carted what we needed up the driveway to the house. The heavens opened. And stayed open for three days and nights straight.
That next morning, there was a river flowing under the Suzuki, and the river under the Hilux was flowing over. We were at the very bottom of every hill around us and the waters were raging. Neither car would move for a week.
Our daily hike 7kms to the shops and back was great though, even in the rain, the ‘lallies’ are a real fun place to be hanging out.
Escape
Finally the weather broke and we got ourselves up the hill to level ground, where a 4wd took us over to Sasta Lodge, our home for the next few days. Where we are drying out and catching up on work frantically so we can go fishing on the pushing tide.
