Baby Oyster Catchers have hatched in Part 4 of the JBay Boardwalk Saga

Which Oyster Catchers Path don't you get

Baby Oyster Catchers have hatched in Part 4 of the JBay Boardwalk Saga

Baby Oyster Catchers have hatched in Part 4 of the JBay Boardwalk Saga.

Enjoy the video…

Part 1

“Jislaik daar is eiers hierso!”

When Brucifire arrived on the scene of the angry and disturbed mama Oyster Catcher, the workers building the all-new boardwalk down the beach in Jeffreys Bay, had the sense to surround the two eggs, with rocks. It was a beautiful display of respect for the Oyster Catcher family-to-be.

It would have been far more prudent however, if the people paying for the boardwalk, would have already scouted the area for nesting birds. And any other natural occurrences that should never be messed with.

Part 2

“People teaching people how to be people.”

That’s just the nicest translation, or adaptation of the African word Ubuntu. And Bruce holds back his frustration fairly well as people…people…just walk right on by the birds nest.

Some with dogs!

He tries to educate them. But ignorance prevails…

Part 3

“Haolis”.

Mama Oyster Catcher is still on the job, even though so many disrespectful people – completely oblivious to nature, just come too close.

Construction on the boardwalk has seemingly come to a halt at this point in the saga.

Part 4

“Twins!”

We have a set of twin baby Oyster Catchers. Brucifire got a photo in from far off. As he did not want to disturb our already ruffled mama.

They are so cute. And vulnerable as they got to work their way from beach life to rock life. Where they will be relatively safe from their main predator.

Dogs!

Bruce reports that this problem is far and wide. Especially prevalent down south. Where dead baby chicks – killed by dogs, are found too often.

Please keep your dogs on a leash or go to “Dog Beach”, down the way.

We want a pleasant Part 5 when we celebrate the chicks coming of a week’s age.

Jeffreys bay today by Brucifire

Today its overcast n cold 25 out at supers 10 at point..been 50 out at supers on the good day but more good days coming. A few over head sets pulling through. Yes aloes starting to bloom, ferox and capensis. Drama at point with young Sawyer hounding an American Sup friend of mine out the water. He went to police and made a statement but did not press charges. He left town after Ginsberg tuned him to leave it alone. Even Lipshitz got involved and his board has more volume than the sups. Homicide of a youngish whitey knocked that darn hippie onto page five of Our Crimes complaining of traffic, sewerage into the sea, loose dogs crapping everywhere, beach sleepers, hoboes and drunk car guards.there is even a plea in there for a wendy house or old caravan, the old chancer. Couple members of Parkway Drive, big time Aussie band from Byron Bay, in town surfing very well. Maarten van der Velde has the images. Warren Dean still ripping from Boneyards which was originally named Insanitudes by the guys making Ra boards at Shalom overlooking it. Steve sawyer also getting tubed all over the show. Day before yesterday, friday was the most picture perfect medium size Supers of the winter. Here at JBay Surf View us few grumpy old men checking the whole scene with binoculars looking for reasons to not suit up just yet. Larry Levine building a house for Derek Hynde opposite us but has hit rock and jack hammers cant get through. Peace back in the valley.

There you go J-Bay, a nuclear reactor in your own backyard…

There you go J-Bay, a nuclear reactor in your own backyard…

As Brucifire so candidly puts it!

Bruces thoughts are here…

Umm, there really is a problem here. The following outlines most of it…

https://businesstech.co.za/news/government/124993/zuma-the-guptas-and-south-africas-r1-trillion-nuclear-plans/

So maybe then, all those power cuts were sold to us like Exxon to the Americans?

And it all leads back to the chief knob, NO MATTER which way you look?! His son?! His relationship with Putin?!

My question is what the hell were Rosaton doing owning a Uranium mine in Jhb in the first place?! How far back could this planning have gone?

We need some spies!

Supping is safe at Port St. Johns 2nd Beach – in the estuary

Supping is safe at Port St. Johns 2nd Beach – in the estuary

Supping is safe at Port St. Johns 2nd Beach – in the estuary! After weeks of bumping into people and hearing their stories in and around PSJ, it definitely does not seem safe to even consider going into that piece of ocean. http://africasup.com/ gave us two SUPs to give it a go, which we did, and have come to the verdict that this place is just too full of sharks for any kind of water boarding at all.

But we gave it a go…

Don’t even think about trying it. It was so spooky, the shallow bar gives way to a deep and ominous undertow that sucks you out to sea in no time. At last we got a wave or two, but Brucifire took a hit on the nose and on the finger and was bleeding all over the place. We quit while ahead, and moved into the estuary for some balancing practise and a swim with the lifeguards.

There are just too many sharks, it’s that simple.

This is shark central. There are no nets here, and no subsistence shark reapers. The sharks abound. And they love the Umzimvubu, which is full of them, big mammas down to small pups. We catch them all the time. And see them.

There is a lot to attract them to the area, Pristine eco systems and reefs. Dirty water. Kob…

So until a shark exclusion barrier ( not a shark net system like the killer gill nets in KZN) is installed at 2nd Beach, there will be no takers. The reason we undertook this publicity stunt was to garner support for the exclusion barrier. Exposure through controversy, and it seems to be working. The lifeguards are involved and stakeholders in the town are excited.

Drownings are also a huge problem down in Port St. Johns. This device will almost certainly put a stop to accidental drownings completely. The lifeguards patrol within the exclusion zone, right amongst the bathers, as they maintain the barrier through the tides. The barrier is removed completely at night, or in bad weather and ocean conditions.

Note: We are not writing Supping off at 2nd Beach completely. I mean a huge 10 ft board gives you 1000 times more chances of shark encounter survival. In a flat sea it’s even safer. If a shark comes past, just hit the deck and hide!
