A core turnout of locals hit the Banana Beach river this morning, to continue clearing the invasive plant species, hyacinth, out. The goal is to keep at least the sea end of the river clear to give the remaining few fish a chance to breath and move around.
At the end of the gruelling session, the area from the old bridge pilons down to the sea end of the river is clear. A connected series of kayaks, logs and planks made for a much larger scoop with enough catchment to really make a difference.
Many thanks and much respect to the volunteers.
