Sardines at Mpande and SW Buster Hits
Sardines at Mpande and SW Buster Hits: a spotter plane yesterday recorded some fantastic imagery of a large collection of sardine shoals out off Mpande.
These sardines will be thrilled with the cooling conditions as this next cold front settles in nicely. This buster came way before it was meant to, and could just be a precursor to the main event, which, according to windy.com, is still a few days away. And yes, it looks absolutely mean on Windy.
We also got a dark moon coming up, and spring tides. Big winds and waves. All we need now is some cooling of the ocean and atmosphere and those sardines are sure to get back on the move. The sardines have been loving life in the area between Hole-in-the-Wall and Brazen Head. Each of the three major congregations took a few weeks to enjoy those crystal-clean and clear waters this season. It took the lining up of all the above requirements to get them going each time.
? Cliff Bamber Beach Report — Thursday 10:45 AM
This Thursday morning we’re being greeted by a buster of a south?westerly wind — it’s really pumping through, driving spray off the waves as it barrels from the right?hand side. The ocean looks alive under the force of the Westerly, with white streaks of foam carried across the surface.
Despite the wind, the skies are mostly clear and bright, and temperatures are surprisingly warm, sitting around 23–24°C. It’s the kind of day where the air feels fresh but the sun still carries a touch of heat.
Surf conditions are rough for now, but tomorrow promises improvement once the wind eases. For today, it’s a quiet beach scene, with only the hardy few braving the gusts. The swell is restless, the atmosphere charged, yet there’s a certain beauty in watching nature flex its muscles.
