7 July 2024 Sunday Sardine and Ocean Conditions RoundUp

7 July 2024 KZN Ocean Roundup by The Sardine News

7 July 2024 Sunday Sardine and Ocean Conditions RoundUp

7 July 2024 Sunday Sardine and Ocean Conditions RoundUp: this crisp Sunday morning holds promise aplenty for oceangoers as conditions reveal themselves to be quite friendly.

Sardines in the Surf Report?!

As Adam took to the sea early this morning to catch some breakfast, we crossed over to Roosta who was luckily on the beach at the time. The surf isn’t as promising as Roosta would like it. But he did show us a shoal of sardines extending for hundreds of metres on the backline off the Anerley area.

This shoal is moving north with the swell and could come within netting range as the tide drops through the morning. Becoming very low at 10:40 am. This is time to be on patrol and hunting for sardines trapped in the gulleys and channels.

Spearfishing

Another favourable looking day ahead for the spearo community. The Bear reports good water as they try to make up for lost time accumulated during all the wayward weather of the past few years.

There are snoek and garrick to shoot. A lot of kob. And the odd couda! The warm water encouraging our favourite gamefish further and further south. Where they are bound to run into the shoals of sardines coming the other way. Get full of sards. Slow down. And…

Wham!

The Transkei

Finally, we reach Transkei where Coral Bella does the Freedom O Clock update for us. From the beach at Mdumbi. Alls I can add is that it must be freezing down thataway right now!

Thanks to all the contributors to today’s sardine news roundup. It is clear from today’s report that we all can learn from each others different ocean activities. Sardines in the Surf Report?!

There are strong tides today. There will be currents and things. The ocean is not always your friend!

6 July 2024, 7 am Sardine Conditions Report by Adam in Durban

6 July 2024 at 7am with Adam Kamdar KZN Sardine Conditions Report

6 July 2024, 7 am #Sardine Conditions Report by Adam in #Durban #KZN #South #Africa

Good morning, Durban. It’s just after 7 am on Saturday, the 6th of July 2024. We experienced a spring high tide at 4 am, and the next spring low tide will be at 10 am. The forecast from Windguru indicates fresh offshore winds throughout the day, high swells, with temperatures around 21 degrees Celsius. How has Windguru been performing for you?

Do you find it accurate? Please leave your feedback in the comments below. This is the tides update for fishing. The wind is blowing at 13 kilometers per hour from the west, with a chilly temperature of 12 degrees Celsius in Durban this morning. Wave net indicates the water temperature is still dropping, yet remains too warm for sardines at around 22 degrees Celsius.

We need it to drop to 19 degrees Celsius. The atmospheric pressure in Durban is 1020 hPa and rising. The most recent sardine sightings were near Warner Beach, but only birds were spotted, with little to no sign of shoals. Thus, the trail has gone cold for the sardines due to Durban’s warm waters.

Next, we’ll present the sunrise view.

This is today’s sunrise. As visible by the flags, there’s a light offshore wind smoothing the sea near the shore. However, the sea conditions are rough with high swells offshore. Consequently, many boats have altered their deep-sea fishing plans, opting to fish closer to shore, backline, near the stadium, Virginia, targeting snoek, among others.

Here, one of the boats is seen fishing, and numerous canoes are out for morning exercise. The conditions are beautifully calm at Point Beach, Ushaka area.

And this view is towards Blue Lagoon.

Have a spectacular day and stay updated with thesardine.co.za.

“Thank you Adam!”

7 am and 9 am Updates 5 July 2024 Ocean Conditions Report KZN

5 July 2024 at 7am Sardines and Conditions by The Sardine News

5 July 2024 Ocean Conditions Report KZN 7 am and 9 am updates

5 July 2024 Ocean Conditions Report KZN: Good morning and welcome to today’s Ocean Conditions Report prepared right from the beach.

9 am

This is the 9 am Report from Ajay in Mzamba in the Transkei…

7 am

And the first report of the day by Adam at 7 am this morning in Durban

Yesterday’s big buster southwest wind will have had a grand impact on the ocean conditions today. There is a rolling south swell and the morning will paint a very pretty picture.

More wind from the south all day. Getting quite feisty after noon.

Sardines

So if you are also on the hunt for sardines, things are looking quite ok. That rolling south swell is just what the sardines use to get mobile against the prevailing north-to-south Agulhas Current.

It has been an incredibly warm year for KZN water. It’s got to drop sometime soon!

Spearos

The warm water brings the couta. And the spearos are revelling in the same warm water. Here is a great story from this past week…

Ocean Conditions Report includes some spearing news today…

Plus a video report from The Bear of the Master Watermen website.

But ok stay tight to The Sardine News. We are also on the move today. We will be starting in the Umzumbe area since there was a large shoal being hammered to pieces of the Wild Coast Sun late yesterday afternoon.

Heading this way!

4 July 2024 at 7am by Adam Kamdar on the Durban Beachfront: 4 July 2024 at 7am by Adam Kamdar on the Durban Beachfront: good morning KZN and the rest of the world. We wish you the most joyful sardine and fish-catching day today. Head south to the usual spots like Scotties and the Warner Beach area.

For now, over to Adam as he tells all…

4 July 2024 at 7am by Adam Kamdar on the Durban Beachfront

Greetings from the studio here at The Sardine News. Another wonderful KZN winter’s day as the sun comes up shining and the ocean smooth as a lake.

Buster

The threat of a buster SW has been hanging over us a few days now. But it still hasn’t arrived. Even as the weather conspirers juggle their models and predictions day to day, each morning has revealed itself in absolute south coast perfection.

Sardines

As for the sardines, well they also have been scarce. The Sardine News team traveled north and south over the previous two days. Seeing many baitballs that certainly could have been sardines. But we just couldn’t get close to them as they skirted the backline and stayed well out of reach.

Waves

The big south winter swells of June and July have been noticeably absent so far. One or two bigger days gave in fast to the smaller more direct swells coming out of the east.

Diving

It is high spearo paradise and these guys have taken full advantage of the clear conditions. Thriving gamefish. Which almost makes up for the doldrums of the past few floods.

Ocean safari and scoobies will also be making the most of the cetaceans and predators hammering at the wayward sardines.

8am 3 July 2024 Sardines and Conditions Report for KZN

The stable weather and sea conditions continue through the neap tide cycle as reported today. Right from the ocean. Adam and Nigel are out there catching delicious Natal Snoek right now!

Nigel with his first fish from this idyllic KZN Winter morning off the Blue Lagoon.

Sardines’

Are very hard to find right now. We scoured out every beach and vay from Mzamba in the Transkei all the way to Port Shepstone. We saw many sardines. But way out to sea. Where the dolphins and other predators were simply gorging themselves on the confused and exhausted sardines.

These sardines still don’t know where they went wrong and are just forging ahead in the hopes of breaking through into the sardine Eden. Like the rest of the population who went the right way. Up the West Coast. To spawn and breed and repopulate.

Shad

The shad are distracted by these wayward sardines that refuse to come close. And they are also out there chasing the shoals. Making for some very frustrated mombakkies looking fisherfolk up and down the coast.

At least the beaches stay clean when the shad fishermen aren’t trashing the places.

Garrick

The Master Watermen website has shown some outsized garrick falling to the spear. On average, they certainly seem to be bigger this year so far. However, some real small ones are also being caught and kept. Which is not going to work for next year’s garrick visit. And another reminder that the bag limit is 2 per person.

Kob

There are kob of all sizes lurking everywhere, mainly in the shallows. Wherever shad were biting in the daytime, you will find kob there in the night time.

We also caught this lovely pan-sized koblet in the Umzimkulu Estuary this week. By Wouter and caught on a lure.

Conditions

Are going to continue to ve excellent. And this cold front that has been promised to us will hopefully be on time tomorrow. And will airbrush the ocean into perfection all over again. And the cycle continues.

All we really need, is some cold water!
