Durban Surf Washing Machine Conditions with Cold Rinse by Adam Kamdar

Durban Surf Conditions Jump Tide with Cold Rinse

Durban Surf Washing Machine Conditions with Cold Rinse by Adam Kamdar #surf #surfing #conditions #fishing #diving #kzn

Durban Surf Washing Machine Conditions with Cold Rinse by Adam Kamdar #surf #surfing #conditions #fishing #diving #kzn: The east winds have a profoundly bad effect on the ocean here in KZN, South Africa. These notorious winds push strong little swells in from a weird east angle. With a very short swell period down to 6 seconds or so. These winds also causes an upwelling of cold water. And they can reverse the current.

All this results in a choppy and unpredictable swell pattern. That can be extraordinarily difficult to work with.

And an added bonus, are the bluebottles! When the east winds blow, these marine stingers set sail for our shores. Causing untold chaos and pain on our KZN beaches. If you are a victim, head to the lifeguards for assistance – they know the drill when it comes to bluebottles.

After that pretty picture has been painted…over to Adam with his first-hand report right from the Durban Beachfront. Thank you Adam!

Sardine n Sighting Maps

It has been a fantastic sardine run this memorable 2024. And all the action has been logged right here on The Sardine News. This year’s map has been viewed 180,000 times and keeps growing.

Which led us to decide to keep the map live. And keep adding unique marine animal sightings and events. That occurs non-stop all year round. This year we started to log more whale and dolphin sightings. And we even had a shipwreck! And a freaking tornado!

These events will from now on be included in the Sardine News Sightings Map for 2024. And on the 1 January 2025, we shall start all over again.

Here are the links to existing and past Sardine Sighting Maps. Great for another chilly day like today to research. With instructions to install The Sardine News right on your phone or desktop.

PM Update: Durban Fishing Report from the Water – Rainbow Runner by Adam and Schalk

Durban Fishing Report from the Water by Adam and Schalk 10 September 2024

PM Update: Durban Fishing Report from the Water – Rainbow Runner by Adam and Schalk

Durban Fishing Report from the Water 10 Sep 24 by Adam and Schalk who are actually fishing right now: this report took a total of 4 minutes to put together! Definitively a record. But then, it took a full 15 minutes to upload! Either way, today’s report is special in that it comes straight from the water.

And is very on time!

Over to Adam…

Early Durban Fishing Report by Adam and Schalk out at sea right now

Adam and Schalk are out there and making sure nothing goes on or slips by without us knowing about it. They are gonna hunt around for winter gamefish like bonnies, tuna and ambos. Looking forward to the results of their trip.

The ocean is flat as a pancake with a gentle and organised little swell running through to the beaches. The swell is from a weird SSE angle which should make it to the shorebreak for the surfers waiting there.

The light SW wind blowing now will be unceremoniously replaced by the usual NE trades in the afternoon. These winds are going to blow most afternoons coming up. It’s a question of when they start that will depict your day. But for now, early mornings as we move into summer, are the better option by far.

Watch out for colder water bluebottles as the East winds really get up later this week.

Stay tuned for more reports as they come in through the day. All the reports compile ultimately to https://thesardine.co.za.

Right here!

Noon update…

Humpback Whale and Calf Cavorting out off Durban by Adam and Schalk who are out there right NOW!

The Sardine News 2024 Marine Sightings Map is populating fast. Luckily we had a few cool sightings from recent months that we could log on to the interactive map and move it along. It is looking fun and colourful right now.

And today the 10 September 2024 we have Adam and Schalk on patrol out off Durban right now. They launched earlier and have had some excellent fishing so far. And then Adam lucked into this rad video sequence of a humpback whale mother and calf interacting.

This sighting is headed straight for The Sardine News 2024 Marine Sightings Map.

This is what Adam and Schalk have caught already…a proper rainbow runner – the likes I’ve not seen in decades!

Baby Cape Fur Seal Sighting in Port Edward

Cape Fur Seal Sighting at Port Edward recently

Baby Cape Fur Seal Sighting in Port Edward

Baby Cape Fur Seal Sighting in Port Edward featuring the 2024 Sardine News Sightings Map: We are going to continue the Sardine News Sightings Map, with any and all other marine animal visits, or oceanic events that we can log. And who actually knows…according to previous years we could still be in for a sardine surprise.

In the meantime…meet our latest guest on The Sardine News…

Video source: Jenny Koen from Leisure Bay Conservancy

If any of you out there happen upon anything like this little lost baby seal, or anything else stranded and in need of assistance, let us know and we can further the information onto the relevant parties.

Marine Life Rescue is a WhatsApp Group based on the lower KZN South Coast and is firmly dedicated to the rescue and conservation of our local and visiting marine life.

The Umtamvuna Marine Conservancy set up a vigil for the young visiting seal star with the Leisure Bay Conservancy, CROW and concerned residents. They guarded the seal for six hours.

After a good old rest…the little guy beat the shore break and was soon out in the open ocean again. Heading back to the cold Cape where he came from hopefully.

Chilly Monday in Durban KZN by Adam Kamdar 9 September 2024

Chilly Monday 9 September 2024 by Adam Kamdar in Durban KZN South Africa

Chilly Monday in Durban KZN by Adam Kamdar 9 September 2024

Chilly Monday in Durban KZN by Adam Kamdar 9 September 2024: The first report in today comes from Adam Kamdar from a rather chilled Durban Beachfront. Some brave dudes are out there surfing fun little shore break-type waves. But not too much else it seems is going on today.

Over to Adam…

Chilly Monday Morning in Durban KZN South Africa

If you get the chance, pop by Township Hyper and check out the latest Precision grinder rods recently available.

And a quick look at the waves in Durban town today…

Yesterday

Cliff Bamber down in Scottburgh yesterday made this quick report for us too…a great reference as to the progress of our current cold front. This front may be the last real freeze that we might get as we charge into spring weather.

Over to Cliff…yesterday’s chilly report today…

By Cliff Bamber in Scottburgh yesterday 8 September 2024

Thank you, Cliff, unlike the weather, your reports are cooking. Please keep it up!

Sightings Map 2024

So we have decided to continue with the 2024 Sardine Sightings Map. Only now we are going to log any and all unique ocean events or marine visitors. Like that seal on the lower south coast last week. Didn’t make the cut yet but we will see what we can do about it.

In the meantime, here is the link to the 2024 Sightings Map.

The Sardine News 2024 Marine Sightings Map

On a chilly day like today, you can visit this map and relive the sardine run right from where it started down in the Cape in May. It has been a remarkably interesting sardine run as the little guys shot out of the gate real early this year. And then had us all guessing as they just kept coming. Day after day. Week after week.

Then that warm water moved and it has stayed warm (bar a few days last week) for 2 months or more. It has hardly dropped below 20 degrees and each time it did, sardines and other baitfish appeared. And then disappeared.

By now, the general consensus is that the sardines are all eaten. Some might have made their way out deeper to a cold patch and went back south with it. There is zero proof of this theory. But generally that water out there is far too warm for sardines. It gets over 26 degrees out there in the Agulhas Current, the sardines would be boiled at that temperature.

We sure hope you got some sardines this season too!

Beach Reports for KZN by The Sardine News 8 September 2024

Beach Report Durban 8 September 2024 by Adam Kamdar

Beach Reports for KZN by The Sardine News 8 September 2024

Beach Reports for KZN by The Sardine News 8 September 2024: what a lekka weekend for a change as we escape the prevalent winds characteristic of this time of year.

We are kicking off the beach reports today with Adam Kamdar right on the spot in Durban. Adam’s report is a great way to start the day and is published before 8 or 9 a.m. most times. Sometimes, even at 7 a.m., we are done!

Over to Adam…

And then a quick adjustment to the programming schedule…

“I’m a man who could easily let the day get out of control” – Blind Melon

Well, I got the schedule wrong slightly, The Bear actually checked in first today, all the way down from Umkomaas…at 7am! Please check out The Master Watermen website and YouTube Channel, links are also down below.

Where he reports reasonable to adverse diving conditions. And a buster on the way…

Well at least the wind ain’t howling and by later this afternoon I am sure some decent catches will have been made. If, so they will be reported right here on this daily beach reports page for the 8 September 2024.

Humpback Whales Sighted

This common sighting is slightly special since it marks the continuation of our 2024 Sardine Sightings Map. We are going to continue to run the map with whatever interesting ocean animal or event sightings that we receive. Like these two Humpback Whales dancing the day away off Umkomaas area.

As shot by The Bear on his cellphone. Here at The Sardine News we have always favoured authenticity over being too fussy with image quality and the like. We just need the news and as long as you can see and verify what is going on…that’s fine for us!

Scottburgh in the Afternoon

Cliff Bamber on Scotties beach this afternoon at around 1 pm…

Thank you Cliff!

Sardine Maps

Having intel to make the right decisions can save you hours and hours of frivolous sardine hunting. We have taken great care to log the activity of each sardine run since 2021. These records are available for anyone to look at.

If you study the maps year to year, you will see that right now we are only just in the middle of good sardine conditions. And that in previous years catches were made right into the summer months.
