Blue Lagoon Garrick Report by Sean Lange and Adam Kamdar 8am 26 October 2024

Blue Lagoon Garrick Report by Sean Lange and Adam Kamdar 8am 26 October 2024

Blue Lagoon Garrick Report by Sean Lange and Adam Kamdar 8am 26 October 2024: Another fun Saturday for KZN ocean users! Light winds from the south all day. Starting nice and offshore and swinging around to a gentle east angle. Not picking up at all.

Adam Kamdar is out there making the most of the cool conditions and sent in this clip before 8am! “That’s Him” fighting and boating a double-figures looking garrick out off the Blue Lagoon area.

There are many boats and oceancrafts out there looking for live bait and a chance at a tough-fighting garrick fish. Adam is going to be sending in more action clips from the water through the day. His next one is already in!

Blue Lagoon Garrick Report Two by Adam Kamdar on the water

This time it’s charter boat Simply the Best who has not one, but two garrick on the line. This video focuses mainly on the fish at the back of the boat. The cabin gets in the way of seeing the second fish being handled from the starboard bow.

Adam reports many boats out having a fun day. Weirdly enough, this is the second Saturday in a row that has panned out so nicely. Those are good statistics for this time of the year. As we expect a beast of an east to start early tomorrow and destroy the ocean in no time flat. Maybe the very early birders will get a line wet or catch a wave or two.

The divers will be getting in very early tomorrow for sure and we all look forward to the next Bear report from the Master Watermen website. There must be some clean patches somewhere up or down the coast for the okes to dive in.

More reports to follow throughout the day…

Sardines n Sighting Maps

It has been a fantastic sardine run this memorable 2024. And all the action has been logged right here on The Sardine News. This year’s map has been viewed 188,000 times and keeps growing.

Which led us to decide to keep the map live. And keep adding unique marine animal sightings and events. That occurs non-stop all year round. This year we started to log more whale and dolphin sightings. And we even had a shipwreck! And a freaking tornado! And recently a capsized KZNSB boat!

These events will from now on be included in the Sardine News Sightings Map for 2024. And on the 1 January 2025, we shall start all over again.

Here are the links to existing and past Sardine Sighting Maps. Great for a windy day like today to research. With instructions to install The Sardine News right on your phone or desktop.

Another day of Cooking Waves in Durban KZN by Adam Kamdar 25 October 2024 7am

Another day of Surfing in Durban 25 October 2024 7am by Adam Kamdar

Another day of Cooking Waves in Durban KZN by Adam Kamdar 25 October 2024 7am

Another day of Cooking Waves in Durban KZN by Adam Kamdar 25 October 2024 7am: And the waves just keep rolling in!

Over to Adam with a birds-eye view of the entire scene…

Thank you Adam of Township Hyper. Click HERE to see current specials and promotions.

If you take a careful gander at the synpotic chart for today (below), you might spot the good news. Two vaste high-pressure systems are joining forces and pushing the three impending cold fronts down to the south and out of range.

We will still get the south swell. And we might get a decent puff of south wind (will be a bit sideshore). But the main takeaway is that we are in for a couple weeks of good weather!

High pressure’s are anti-rain and the ocean will have a chance to clean up after the recent downpours. The swell will also clean up and the ocean should be in great shape by Monday or so.

That’s not to say that the weekend won’t be a cracker. It’s just that the sea has taken an absolute hammering lately and needs time to recover. To clean up. To smooth out.

Durban Today

Fishing

However, some fish relish these off-clean conditions. Like Natal Snoek. Grunter. Kob. And even shad. Some monster shad coming out lately. All having to be released since we are out of season right now. Check back later for an epic battle between a huge shad and a huge shore break. All masterfully handled by fishing guide Alan on The Sandspit yesterday. And all on video!

Other movies in the pipeline include our latest iteration of a marine drone to carry our underwater cameras around on. Now we gonna be able to chase those garrick and kingfish when they come and make baitballs out here in front of the lodge.

The lodge, funnily enough, the Umzimkulu Marina in Sheppy, is almost completely empty this weekend! After being fully booked last weekend, we are certainly going to enjoy the quiet time. But if you feel like catching kob on live mullet and prawn, you know who to call for a close-by fishing getaway. Just an hour from Durban, come for the day. Or for the night.

More information at https://umzimkulu.co.za, https://umzimkuluadrenalin.co.za or https://thesardine.co.za. Or simply drop me (Sean) a line or a message on +27793269671 or on umzimkulu@gmail.com.

Angus Gibson Garrick in the Umzimkulu
Angus Gibson Garrick in the Umzimkulu, our best recent catch in the estuary. I was asleep when I heard my name being shouted out again! Got down there just in time to help release the feisty young fish. No tag, unfortunately, the tagging kit was out to sea on a different boat.

Durban Surf Cooking Again by Adam Kamdar

Gone Surfing 24 October 2024

Durban Surf Cooking Again by Adam Kamdar

Durban Surf Cooking Again by Adam Kamdar: The waves are even better looking in Durban today! And up and down the coast the light north offshore jacked the waves up just right this morning. Adam Kamdar on the scene at North Beach in got some rad video and pics. Thank you Adam!

Tomorrow is another surfing day for Durban town beaches as a stiff south-westerly starts early and blows all day. The piers love these conditions and all the waves come alive.

The neap tides are a bit odd but do facilitate calmer weather at the same time. And Saturday is the next perfect day with hardly any wind again. Actually, the perfect fishing day.

Not sure about diving as the recent rains have discoloured most stretches of coastline here in KZN. Especially down south, finding a clean patch will be tough. The water has also dropped down to 19 degrees Celsius today, not sure what caused that – an upwelling from the onshore winds, or from the melting snow on the Berg?

We will find out more tomorrow when The Bear of the Master Watermen files his spearfishing report in the afternoon.

Over to Adam…

Cooking Surf in Durban and other Ocean Tales by Adam Kamdar 7am 23 October 2024

Cooking Surf in Durban and other Ocean Tales by Adam Kamdar 7am 23 October 2024

Cooking Surf in Durban and other Ocean Tales by Adam Kamdar 7am 23 October 2024: If you are a surfer in Durban, today the ocean is your friend. Painted pretty by a gentle offshore breeze, the swell is coming into the beaches in Durban town at a really functional angle.

There are peaks and runners left and right all over the place. There is a bit of a crowd but at least not many waves will go by unridden. With a mellow low tide only scheduled for 1pm or so, the waves look to even maybe gonna improve as the morning unfolds.

The ongoing spate of warm water continues as the buoys reveal an inviting 22 degree Celsius average up and down the coast. The water must be gonna clear up soon in some places too. Meaning the divers can get back in and let us know what is going on down there.

Township Hyper is starting their Black November sale early this year. You can find out what is going on and stay in touch through the Township Hyper Facebook page. Thank you Adam for the surf report…

Thank you Adam, and for the gallery shot of the waves in Durban this morning at 7am…

Sunny Skies and Chevrolet for KZN by Adam Kamdar 22 October 2024 at 7am

Sunny Skies and Chevrolet for KZN by Adam Kamdar

Sunny Skies and Chevrolet for KZN by Adam Kamdar 22 October 2024 at 7am

Sunny Skies and Chevrolet for KZN by Adam Kamdar 22 October 2024 at 7am: Durban checks all the boxes when it comes to living an ocean-based lifestyle. The town beaches are all spectacularly usable even when the open ocean is rough and choppy.

Like today, the open ocean is unruly, yet the waves between the piers on the Durban north-facing beaches are formed up pretty. Many surfers are on the scene this morning. Enjoying a decent swell rolling in from a more square angle that helps it get right into the bays between the piers. The south swells really struggle to turn the corner. And so yes, go surfing if you can!
