Dean Greyling takes the boat at Guinjata 2016
It was a fantastic week here in Guinjata 2016 as a wide field contested the ocean and conditions for the first prize boat.
Half a million Rand of boat!
Goes to…
Dean Greyling, boat Cabrito, Captain Bok van Blerk.
The 35kg GT was a very hard fish to beat.
The week started slow with a weather day on the Monday. Tuesday was great, and the fish weighed started the jostling. Wednesday saw Cabrito come home with that monster GT, and the 35kg milestone was set.
Who could get a bigger fish? There were very few yellowfin around. No couta above 20kgs has been seen in Mozambique for months. The amberjack posed a solution, and many went that route. Others were getting more desperate and hauled out deep, hoping to find that big tuna. Either way, the teams fished hard.
Stephi-Joe gave it their best too and impressed the eager spectators with their lady caught 19kg dorado. A really good fish that would have taken top honours, if not for Cabrito’s kingfish.
But by the Friday cut-off time Bok van Blerk left the weigh in area to inform his team mates of their victory. I walked past just at the right time to get the shot below…
Next year is the 20th event that the Guinjata Fishing Club will be hosting and we are ALL gonna be there. The organisation is fantastic, the facilities great, and the place, well…Guinjata and Paindane are two of the loveliest spots on the planet. For the WHOLE family.
