Check out all the wahoo featuring in this weeks spearfishing report by the ever reliable Jason Heyne… – Shonalanga

The sea conditions at the start of the week were great then a big north east pushed through on Wednesday which churned the sea up. Thursday and Friday the south west blew cleaning up the south coast. Saturday the swell drops to 1.5m with a light north blowing switching to a moderate north east later in the day. Sunday looks tops with light variable wind all day and a 1.4m swell running. There are big king mackerel patrolling the south coast with garrick and daga salmon starting to make an appearance. Big Natal snoek are back on the north coast. Sunday looks to be the best day for a dive. As always dive safe and straight spears.

Spearo news KZN

Sea conditions have been great this week. Flat sea but no viz! Just about every river came down with the rain on the weekend. I have had no good viz reports and it’s anybodies guess as to where it’s going to clean up. On a brighter note the good conditions continue through to next week. Saturday and Sunday minimal swell and light variable wind. Garrick have started to arrive on the south coast with some daga salmon. As always dive safe and straight spears.

KZN East Coast Spearfishing report

Well the week so far hasn’t been good with big swell pounding the coast. A big south west has just arrived in Durban tonight (Friday) and will blow up to 35 knts bringing with it even bigger swell up to 4m. The wind dies down Saturday night. Swell drops off a bit to 1.8m Sunday with an offshore blowing in the morning switching to a light north east later in the day. Monday looks absolutely awesome with 1.1m swell running and a light offshore in the morning switching to a light south west in the afternoon. There was viz both south and north today. Monday is the go day! The zululand boys have been getting some quality fish. With this early winter swell and cold front the winter fish should be arriving en masse on the south coast. I have had reliable reports of big sardine action in the kei. As always dive safe and straight spears.””

Spearfishing South Africa with Jason Heyne

The sea conditions this week have been epic. Flat glassy sea with 1m or less swell running. The bad news is that there is a big cold front heading up the coast from Cape Town caused by a huge low pressure storm over the Atlantic ocean. The South West starts blowing midmorning Saturday with the swell starting at 1m picking up to 2.5m later in the afternoon. The South West dies off late Saturday night. Sunday morning there will be a large heavy swell running at 2m with a moderate north east picking up by lunchtime and obliterating the sea. So Saturday morning early is the best bet for a dive. There is good viz on the north and south coasts. Cuda and snoek are still on the north coast with some fair size gt’s around. South coast some early small garrick have been seen and there are some daga salmon out deeper. The wahoo are still on the Aliwal shoal. As always dive safe and straight spears.

Spearfishing report for KZN

A very bad start to April conditions. The coast has been hammered by big surf. Guys launching from DUC have been getting fish. Surf is set to pick up to 2.5m Friday night dropping off during the day Saturday with not much wind. Sunday morning is looking better with a light north east blowing through the day and the surf drops to 1.5m. There is viz Ballito area and middle south coast area. Please be careful if you try Saturday morning. Big surf can be life threatening. Snoek have been a bit ellusive and king mackerel are still north. As always dive safe and straight spears.
