Bait and Tackle in Jeffreys Bay

Bait and Tackle in Jeffreys Bay

Bait and Tackle in Jeffreys Bay: It’s not just about surfing in this town!

Bait and Tackle in Jeffreys Bay run by Tinus, is easily found up at Fountains Mall. Tinus carries an all round range of tackle for rock and surf anglers who target the kob and big steenbras that Jeffreys Bay is favoured for. The estuaries in the area are great fun and Cape St. Frances is known for yellowtail and big sharks.

The Tackle Box for Mydo Lures and Fishing Charters in Shelley Beach

The Tackle Box for Mydo Lures and Fishing Charters

Shelly Beach is the gateway to the mighty Protea Banks – a line of reef that stretches from Port Shepstone and down past Margate. It’s most prominent points are the two pinnacles, North and South, directly off Shelly Beach’s Sonny Evan’s Small Craft Harbour. The South Pinnacle being the arena that hosts some serious actors including marauding Zambezi’s and gas bottle yellowfin tuna.

Mark Bennet has been fishing these pinnacles and the waters around them for decades, and when he isn’t, you can find him helpful and keen, in The Tackle Box, right at the turn-off to Shelley Beach Ski-boat Club.

Mark and his crew are not just ski-boaters, they all come from a long lineage of serious rock and surf anglers. And being from this part of the world, bassin’ is in their blood.

So next time your’e in Shelley/Shelly Beach, check out The Tackle Box.

They even stock Mydo’s!

Note* There is another Tackle Box in South Africa, but in Middelburg, in the Transvaal. They also stock Mydo’s and can be checked out online on Google, here.

Tuna fishing on Protea Reef is right on the very top of the list of the most fun things to do in the entire world. Until the sharks come. And that's when you need to visit The Tackle Box! ;-)

Report:

Mias in Benoni, Midrand and Woodmead are all now official stockists of the new Mydo Fishing Lures Original and the Generation II range.

The Mias group have been around as long as the tackle industry and each store has amassed a serious amount of stock. Their many years in the industry are apparent as the Mias stores are always busy. Everyone seems to know everyone everywhere?!

The accompanying photos and map are of the Woodmead store, we will map the others soon as…

For fishing tackle in Malalane

For fishing tackle in Malalane

Distributing MYDO Lures around the country has been an interesting task. And the vixen of a GPS system I am using, has been playing real tricks. I have ended up in such the wrong place at such the wrong time, many times.

But along the way, it has guided me to unexpected gems, one of which is TwinCity, in Malalane.

The only fishing tackle store in Malalane, it is run by Jakob and Mohammed, who are evidently as fishing mad as any other tackle store owner. To get to the shop, turn left at the Engen (presumably you would be well on your way to Mozambique coming from inland), then wing a right down towards Home Affairs, stop street, left and (vixen American drawl) – “your destination is on the left“.

The store also carries sporting and school wares, making for that good old family shop feel, that we used to get in our small old towns of yesteryear. In fact Malalane, still carries that outpost vibe, and it was easy to linger and watch the cars go by.

It’s the last tackle stop shop on your way into Mozambique, so save the details into your GPS.

Natal snoek or sailfish? You can choose on the islands pal! (c_ Captain Duarte Rato
On your way into Mozambique, stop at TwinCity in Malalane and stock up on tackle. Maybe you will get to release a sailfish like this one, shot by Captain Duarte Rato from fishbazaruto.com

Rock Salmon on artificial lure by Chris Lepan

Rock Salmon on artificial lure by Chris Lepan

Rory Lawlor has been dragging lures up and down the Umzimkulu River and having more fun than anyone!

Their catch and release records from over this last weekend was phenomenal, between Rory, Chris, Greg Millward and Gavin Nollers they almost made double figures.

Right into last night huge attacks were happening in the channels both sides as we stood and stared in disbelief, speculating what could be going on. Sharks, kingfish, salmon…abounding and visibly on the feed.

Anyway, a very nice trophy fish by Chris, released healthily, and having learnt a good lesson about little rapalas following boats around the place.
