Stopping Shell Oil in the pouring rain!

no to Shell Oil fly by at Pennington Beach, KZN,South Coast

Stopping Shell Oil in pouring the rain!

Stopping Shell Oil in the pouring rain! The communities that stood together in solidarity for the victims of Shell Oil’s seismic gas exploration ship – did so in the pouring rain yesterday. The 5 December 2021 will go down in history as a catalysing moment in the history of this country. When we all stood together, against that ship.

That ship. The unaptly named Amazon Warrior. That ship that pumps out lethal doses of soundwaves, via huge airguns, to search for gas reserves that we do not need to care about.

And on deeper investigation, it reveals that it’s a political level driven project motivated by the usual greed.

Fossil fuels

Burning fossil fuels is incredibly dumb. As dumb as cooking on an open fire indoors.

Tesla and its innovative wannabees have all begun the transition to totally renewable energy use. Decades ago. The bog that keeps green technology like this from being adopted worldwide, is called government. Instead of saving the planet, our ANC led hooligans-in-charge, carefully aware that they are on the slippery slope outta here – are now grasping for last-chances. Anything that they can get their hands on.

Until they are gone from power.

And the next bunch have a go at it.

Flawed system?

Bright side

At this stage, we are simply imagining the brighter side of this impending environmental tragedy. We are still in mid-fight. Courts have ruled a few times, dates are being bandied about – the most recent I understand is that on the 14 December another court judge says something or another.

So, the only bright side, is that communities far and wide, took to the beaches (and even streets of Johannesburg and some other kindred inland towns), during the pouring rain nogal!

And so the flame that has been lit, the flame keeping the movement gainst Shell and the government decision to allow the seismic murder to take place.

There are now so many groups and pages and communities, all banding together to fight Shell Oil. The movement has been noticed by mainstream media who are siding with Shell and the government. Because their very existence depends on their advertising money in the first place.

Go well. Go Shell!

Paid for spot in your brain and memory.

Government watchdogs

The Green Net is a prime example. And there are now many of these government watchdog organisations sprouting up all over the country. As it turns out, the ANC-led government, have been looting state coffers in plain daylight (never mind state capture) – in all sectors, all over this sad country.

Needless and pointless expenditure on massive scales. Building bridges and roads to absolutely nowhere. Corruption at every level, very department. The only way we can stop this is by following constitutional procedures and using the courts to restore our civil rights and liberties.

Luckily the very good people at HTTP://oceansnotoil.org have a legal team well-armed and fighting Shell Oil (and associates) right now. Pop on over to their very-well documented website. And join these guys wherever you can!

KZN South Coast citizens called on to join protest action against Shell’s seismic surveys

Thank you to KMOS! And also for the cool memes at bottom of the post. Use them! – Xona
PRESS RELEASE

For Immediate Attention

01 December 2021 KZN Mid-South Coast citizens called on to join protest action against Shell’s seismic surveys It’s time for South Africans to take action against the needless degradation of the ocean environment in search of destructive fossil fuels.

Environmentalists, scientists and concerned citizens are rallying against Royal Dutch Shell’s seismic surveying on the Wild Coast, with the mid-South Coast among the many beachside venues.

Citizens are called on to join the gathering on Sunday, 5 December at 10am taking place at Widenham Beach (Umkomaas), Scottburgh Main Beach and Pennington Beach. “The harmful surveying process comes just three weeks after the conclusion of the COP26 climate conference where global leaders committed to cutting carbon emissions and reducing reliance on ‘dirty’ energy sources,” explained Claire Taylor, co-founder of the KZN Mid-South Coast Ocean Supporters NPO (KMOS), organiser of the event (in coalition with Oceans Not Oil). “The exploration process will not only impact this ecologically-sensitive ecosystem, but will be devastating for the communities dependent on the ocean for survival – whether it’s through fishing or tourism activities.

We simply cannot stand by and let ‘big energy’ destroy our marine life and livelihoods for their own profit. That’s why we’re urging all citizens to join us on 5 December at their nearest beach to make their voices heard.” Starting on Wednesday, 1 December, Norwegian company, Shearwater GeoServices, will conduct a three-dimensional (3D) offshore seismic survey from Morgan Bay to Port St Johns to map out any potential deposits of oil and gas.

The research vessel, Amazon Warrior, uses military-grade seismic cannons to fire loud shock-wave emissions every 10 seconds, 24 hours a day for five months – before moving to the Eastern Cape where blasting will continue for another five months from Gqeberha to Plettenburg Bay. Fast facts about the seismic survey ·The petroleum industry uses marine seismic surveys to map potential deposits of oil and gas under the seabed. If found in sufficient quantities, the next phase is exploratory drilling before extraction or mining. ·The proposed survey area – Transkei Block Exploration Right – is approximately 20km offshore in water depths ranging from 700m to 3000m covering more than 6 000 km2 of ocean surface. ·

The blasting for the seismic surveys creates a high-intensity sound reaching 230 to 250 decibels.

There is no baseline research on the effects of seismic surveys, they have been known to cause behavioural changes in marine life, stress, embolisms and damage to body tissue. ·These affect a range of marine organisms from smaller creatures to larger animals. Marine mammals appear to be most impacted because of their reliance on sound for communication, to find food and navigate. ·Four of South Africa’s 41 Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) are within the area known as the Transkei Block Exploration Right. Amathole Offshore (50km offshore), Dwesa-Cwebe (14km), Hluleka and Pondoland (slightly north). ·

MPAs protect unique marine biodiversity with a high number of species found nowhere else in the world. The impacts of the sound from the seismic survey travels great distances through water, meaning that the marine life in the MPAs may be impacted. Join the Mid-South Coast gathering The KZN Mid-South Coast gathering forms part of the nationwide objection taking place along the South African coastline on the day. People from all over the coast will gather at their nearest beaches to show their solidarity for the cause.

Environmental Conservation NPO, The Bataleurs, will be deploying a squadron of aircraft for a coast-to-coast flyover, taking aerial footage to provide visuals of the power of this movement. Date: Sunday, 5 DecemberTime: 10am to 2pmVenues: Widenham Beach (Umkomaas), Scottburgh Main Beach and Pennington Main BeachWear: BlueBring: Placards, banners …anything to make an impact

Note: The event is fully Covid-compliant and all attendees must wear masks. Regretfully no dogs allowed.

Win with Mydo:1st couta of 2021/22 Season

First couta of 2021/22 Season

First couta of 2021/22 Season: The Master Watermen website led by The Bear has reported the first couta of the season for this 2021to 2022 changeover.

This time, the spearos got the mantle…thank you to The Bear for his diligent reporting.

Check out the Master Watermen website right here. You can subscribe, install and all sorts, to stay up-to-date with what’s going on under the surface of the ocean.

Video Report

This first couta by Gavin Nell, features in yesterday’s Bear Report video. Along with a strong gallery of summer fish including some majestic grunter and even moff grunter (so they are not extinct then!).

Last seasons First Couta award

The title last year was taken by two kayak anglers. Jonno Gous and Justin Campbell each got a slab of a fish last year this time. In fact, to be exact, it was…

TODAY! The 27th November!1

Yip, these two guys paddled out into the teeth of a beasterly-easterly (just like the one that gonna blow today). They were out for anything that moves and man-oh-man were they each in for a treat.

Jonno got his fish first so officially got the first couta of last season. But he happily shared the honours with his mate Justin.

See the gallery here…

And listen to Justin as he chats to his girl on the phone and all of a sudden the rod screams!

The 2020/21 first couta was caught by Jonno Gous. His mate Justin Campbell made sure and also caught one.

And before that…

A couple of years ago, I thought I had caught the first couta of the season. Published it and all! Meanwhile, somebody had gotten one the day before which I never knew about.

And so with egg on my face, I presented, the 2nd couta of the season…for 2018.

Well, we all make mistakes!

Buy a MYDO Couta Pack right here…

MYDO Lures have been around for more than three decades, closer to four actually. You can buy a MYDO Couta Pack which contains all you need to target these bigger fish, right here on this website. PostNet is used for FREE delivery on orders over R500. This website only takes EFT payments, which is totally cool and safer for you and me.

ALL of these packs come with FULL detailed instructions in the form of an App that you download to your phone. Works on ANY phone or device.

Maybe you will the first to report a ‘couta on the next merry go round?

Busting the Spotted Grunter on camera in the Umzimkulu Estuary

Busting the Spotted Grunter

Busting the Spotted Grunter on camera in the Umzimkulu Estuary

Busting the Spotted Grunter on camera in the Umzimkulu Estuary: after a couple of years of using these GoFish underwater cameras now, we are still learning how to get the best results…

Spotted Grunter busted!

But this past Friday saw a revelation, as we finally busted those wily spotted grunter hunting along the first bank on the incoming tide in the Umzimkulu Estuary. It took a lucky cast to land the camera (simply attached to my line) in the crystal clear water, just as the shoal of hunting fish idled past. In full attack formation.

It’s all about learning

Seeing these fish in their natural environment also makes it clear why you are not getting any bites. These fish are in position, completely focused, waiting to ambush the prawns and fry that come rushing in out-of-control, with the tide.

The water is moving so fast here in the shallows of the estuary mouth – you can see quite clearly what you need to be doing, to get these fish to take an interest, and strike.

And about conservation

In fact, as an alternative to fishing with bait or lures, I quite truthfully, enjoy this more. It’s an absolutely thrilling feeling when, after scrubbing hours of video, a gamefish comes into plain view. In its completely natural habitat. Free-swimming!

And I get to watch it over and over again!

It is much better than catching and killing the fish, to me personally. And I do think this is really going to take off and revolutionise sport-fishing as we know it today.

Slow start

The uptake on fishing cameras has been slow. I only know one other guy in this whole country (South Africa) who has one! Captain Digby Smith has been sending his camera down to the depths off Port Shepstone and has a load of video saved up for me to scrub!

However, the cameras on offer today are so smart and capable and produce such amazing pictures, that soon most guys will be sporting a cam in their box.

GoFish Cameras

The camera used in this video was my GoFish camera, which I have been using for a couple of years now. I have caught so many fish with it! Couta, marlin, tuna…actually everything by now. These clips are the foundations for most of my YouTube channels.

I use them for everything! Their size and relative toughness, make them really adaptable to any situation.

And! You can get them right here on The Sardine News. Using the link below…

I would also like to extend a huge thank you to the KwaDukuza Municipality for their continued support of the Ballito Pro and surfing in South Africa.”

The Ballito Pro 2021 is centred around ongoing surfing contests; the professional World Surf League’s Men, Women’s and Junior contests, as well as the O’Neill Ballito South African Surfing Championships – being hosted in Ballito for the first time in history. And while the surfers battle it out on the waves, festival-goers can enjoy a variety of recreational activities and retail options suited to all ages.

WSL Africa Regional Manager Colin Fitch concurred, saying they’re looking forward to hosting this world-class event: “South Africa’s young surfers are hungry to make an impact on the Qualifying Series and a good result at this prestigious event could catapult you into the big league. Our sincere thanks and praise to the KwaDukuza Municipality, the sponsors and all the residents of Ballito for welcoming us back to their wonderful town and magnificent beaches.”

Robin de Kock, General Manager of Surfing South Africa said they’re excited to be associated with the Ballito Pro in the form of its annual Surfing South Africa Championships: “The 55th edition of this iconic event is particularly important as it determines the South African Men and Women’s Champions and decides which district will take home the coveted President’s Cup.
