Karl Gouws headlines again!

KarlGouws2GarrickKarl Gouws, diving his local beach near Seapark last week, encountered a big shoal of Natal Snoek and before he took a shot was surrounded by hundreds of large garrick aswell. Taking his time he shot two of the more heavies – the bigger one weighing in at 15kg’s! With the bag limit at 2 Garrick, Karl swam back in and again was surrounded by free swimming fish right into the shallows!

Garrick for Carl Gouws at Seapark

Swimming in the backline with Craig Sinclair, and all of a sudden surrounded by hunting dolphins and garrick…Carl banged his first of the season.
That’s about the 10th fish we’ve heard of so far! They could teach the sardines a lesson or two in punctuality.
They were spearfishing on the backline at Seapark, a really good spot for garrick and daga salmon, and of course shad.
So the dolphins paid a visit and the whales were whaling out back.
But no sardines…
Nice fish Carl!

Noel Perch

Noel Labuschagne was our guest on the Umzimkulu River last night – in the first 10 minutes he took this nice perch…duly released. It was a bit slow but with the odd bat and otter to entertain us…and a braai on the bow of the boat…it was good fishing nonetheless.

Rumours of the odd geelbek salmon in the Ramsgate and Boboyi areas are making the rounds, and 3 garrick off the Margate Pier, 2 at Banana Beach and 1 at Sunwich Port are confirmed. There was loads of activity in the surf this morning, waves and fish all over the place…reports of shallow swimming yellowfin tuna in the backline from the Port Shepstone area.
So it seems the fishing has swung and the next few days should be interesting enough.

Karl Gouws again!

Karl Gouws and Elton van Rooyen went deep off Port Shepstone with live bait to load this hard fighting and heavy weighing Amberjack. Pulling these things from 60m on anchor is no joke…but they get up to or more than 60kg’s on some of the deeper Kwazulu Natal lower south coast reefs! Protea Reef has produced some boat winners. Hibberdene is a hotspot for very big Amberjack, and there are some crazy big ones up in Mozambique too. On the back of the diving reefs off Tofo they are reported to shoal and the locals get quite a few in the 20 to 30kg class, during the winter months. Hard to catch. Need live bait.
