7 May 2026 Beach Reports KZN and Transkei
7 May 2026 Beach Reports KZN and Transkei: The three beach reports below give an idea of how the weather can differ so radically over such short distances. It is howling west at Hole-in-the-Wall, and here in Port Shepstone/Scottburgh area, it is cool and calm. Mannie down in Hole-in-the-Wall reckons the wind there is so strong that it has to be headed up this way. Nuthin’ yet as of high noon, just a light SW.
Right, starting with Steve at Wildview Cottages down in Coffee Bay, 4pm yesterday arvo…
Arvo Update Coffee Bay by Wildview 6 May 2026 #wild #coast #transkei #ocean #reporter
Afternoon everyone,
Steve here from Wild View Cottages in Coffee Bay with a quick update.
We’ve got a big swell running this afternoon — plenty of clean lines rolling in, and between them, lots of baitfish, possibly sardines. There are dolphins feeding among the shoals — not a full frenzy yet, but definite activity. A few birds are working the area too, though not in huge numbers.
The action is just outside the backline, close enough that you can see the water shimmering with movement. It’s lively out there!
We’re expecting a strong west wind over the next couple of days, so conditions are lining up nicely for pilot shoals to start pushing through soon.
We’ll keep you posted as things develop.
Enjoy your evening — and don’t forget to subscribe to Sean and the team at Sardine Network to stay up to date with all the latest coastal news.
Cheers, Steve
Pumping West Hole in the Wall by Mannie Jorreiro 7 May 2026 #transkei #wild #coast #sardinerun2026
Hey everyone, Mannie here from Hole in the Wall!
It’s a wild one today — fish everywhere, and the wind is howling like mad across Black Rock. The swell’s pumping, easily six foot plus, and honestly, it’s looking more like J?Bay out here with the way the wind’s blowing.
We’re all hanging onto our roofs along the coast — this gust could lift a house! There’s a big front moving in, so expect more rough weather, but hopefully it’ll clean up the ocean, shift a few sandbanks, and maybe open up some new rocky spots.
No fishermen braving it today — not in this wind — though a few birds are darting around, which means something’s brewing. Word from Sean is that sardine pockets have been spotted further south near Kob Inn, so it’s starting to look promising.
The ships offshore are taking strain too, some hugging the coast, others way out deep. The sea’s alive, and you can feel it — something’s coming north toward Umzimkulu soon.
That’s the latest from the Transkei coast — stay tuned, like, and subscribe to keep the updates rolling.
Cheers from Mannie — signing off from a blistering, windy Hole in the Wall!
Epic Surf Conditions at Scottburgh by Cliff Bamber #kzn #surf #conditions
Morning everyone, Cliff Bamber here with your Scottburgh Beach Report!
We’ve got epic surf conditions along the coast today — light, variable winds and, thankfully, that bad weather predicted for last night never arrived.
The sky’s a brilliant blue with a few scattered clouds, and the ocean’s looking lively. The surf is solid, around a metre and a half to two metres, with clean sets rolling through and plenty of stoked surfers out early enjoying the calm.
We’re also gearing up for the Sani2Sea cyclists arriving soon! The floating bridge isn’t up yet, but it’ll be ready by tomorrow when the first riders cross over the platforms and pedal up through the blue wooden pallets toward the golf course finish line.
All in all, it’s a beautiful day at the beach — sunshine, surf, and excitement building for the big event.
That’s your Scottburgh Beach Report — Cliff Bamber signing off. Enjoy the waves!
