6 June 2023 Sardines sighted off Great Fish River

6 June 2023 Sardines sighted off Great Fish River: It’s a similar scene with allsSardines sighted recently. The furiously hungry predators are gorging themselves and destroying the shoals. Smashing the Shoals into baitballs. And then picking them off one by one.

Everybody gets a turn. The dolphins right now, are the most eager and capable and are really making the most of it out there.

The Great Fish River

Was one of these scenes yesterday. All day long fish and dolphins were smashing into the sardine shoals. The gannets are playing second fiddle, floating about in huge rafts. They might already be full up and are just digesting sardines in the sun together and watching the show.

Roosta and Larraine making sure of the rumours…this is the beautiful lighthouse at the Great Fish River mouth.

Humpback Whales

Were also part of the show at the Great Fish River yesterday. Five individual humpbacks were identified playing in amongst all this action. It was all just a bit far out to sea to photograph or video.

Whales also get to feature on The 2023 Sardine Sightings map…

Updated with any and all verified sardine news. All the sightings listed on the map are bona fide and confirmed by our network of sardine spies stationed up and down the eastern seaboard of southern Africa.

Thank you to Kevin in Qhora (Salt Fishing South Africa) for always being right on the baitball…

Just in this afternoon…

“Just to inform you all that a surf ski was bitten at Reef just now… the paddler is fine and was helped back to the shore by his 2 buddies coz his ski was basically in half.. lifeguards asked me to let reef locals know

Lots of birds/sards today. Probably not a good idea to surf…”
