Umzimkulu Marina fishing report 4 July 2017
The inspiring kingfish we caught on Tuesday last week had us expecting the world from the river the weekend. Read about that one here.
And, on Saturday morning, when the Niteshift launched out to sea, and came back with a bunch of geelbek salmon, we were fuelled with more enthusiasm. So Saturday night, with clients Kevin Bosch and Matt Wainwright, we headed down to the mouth, trolling lures. Nothing came at our lures at all this time. But we had some live shad, threw the anchor in the same place as we were on Tuesday night, and started fishing.
Just as we were baiting up, a shoal of kingfish came by in the slight moonlight, smashing things all around us. I was too slow with my spoon, but went on high alert after that flurry.
The live shad was swimming great in the channel, and Matt had a flapper bait out too. I was standing by with my spoon. But nothing came to report, at all. And so reluctantly at midnight we called it a night.
Luckily The Niteshift was headed back to sea at high tide on Sunday, and so Matt and Kevin hitched a ride, and both came back with some excellent table fare, to take home to their families.
