Umzimkulu Brown Water Has Arrived 25.11.25 #ocean #fishing #diving #conditions: This first rainfall flush of the inland rivers and dams triggers many biological mechanisms as it represents the free-flowing state of the Umzimkulu River. This unimpeded natural process is vital to the health of our reef systems out in the ocean and south all the way to the Transkei and beyond.
This pulse carries with it the nutrients vital to the survival of these beautiful reef systems around here and to the south – in the direction of the Agulhas Current – the Wild Coast.
The flood pulse also pushes the halocline and all it’s nutrients out to sea where it’s met by baitfish. Both feed on the organisms in the newly flushed water and use the darkness for protection. From the gamefish!
Dorado are the main culprits. They arrive here from the open ocean, especially for this natural phenomenon. But they are chased by billfish. Striped and black marlin. And sailfish. Tuna also pitch up for this aggregation as do the king and queen mackerel!
There is a downside, though. The failed municipalities around UGU now pollute this water, and most other places run by the decrepit ANC. It still serves its God-given functions. But it is actually dangerous for people to go into this brown water. Much of it has been stagnating and breeding super bugs like up at the Harding Farmers dam.
And this contaminated water is what makes our tourist visitors sick, every time, as they arrive on holiday, and the rivers come down. The reverse current inspired by the powerful Agulhas makes sure this brown stuff is properly distributed.
Do not swim in this brown water. Go to a beach that has clean, blue water and you can swim or surf in that. And please be aware that it is our duty to warn visitors from putting themselves in danger by going into the brown.
