Sardines spotted on the KZN South Coast

Sardines spotted on the KZN South Coast

After confirmed reports by the Kingfisher fishing report, that real sardines were being caught on Sabiki’s down at Port Edward, bays along the south coast were littered with small pockets of sardines. Umtentweni had some right in the breakers, almost coming into the pool. Sunwich Port had three shoals come flying across the bay, really shallow.

Umtentweni carpark early this morning had some spectacular marine life viewing going. Dolphins and whales…and shoals of sardines – wether or not they are part of the immigration is not confirmed (we have been catching real sardines off some of the bait spots at Umtentweni for a few months now – delicious!)

What this all means, we can’t even say – but it’s the first sardine activity in a while, down here so far. But. The aloes have bloomed, and there is a hint of sardine fever in the all the car parks today.

Happy Sardine Season!
