Moving Bait

As you can clearly see in the video that got you here shad much prefer a moving bait. In fact they fight over a moving bait.

So what you do with the MYDO Shad Trace, is simply rig it up on your light 30lb spinning rig, cast it out there, and retrieve slowly and erratically. This is so much easier than lugging and old style shad rod around. And with decent line or braid, casting becomes a cinch.

Then, when the shad attacks your moving bait, he literally hooks himself. You don’t need to rely on you ageing reaction to strike in time to set the hook. Using the MYDO Shad Trace, you just lean into the strike and that super sharp treble will have him every time.

Efficient

This little rig works great with the four quarters of a sardine. And those can even be split to make 8 baits from one sardine! A little red-eye fits the trace perfectly too.

The MYDO Shad Trace is in essence a MYDO StripBaitSwimmer rigged light. That’s not to say the number 5 wire won’t hold out against a marauding garrick, it is way strong enough. And garrick are not the only thing that will take your moving fillet bait in the white water…all kinds of gamefish like kingfish and queenfish will be interested. For this is exactly how we catch big gamefish out deep. With slow-trolled fillet baits. From bait to billfish, everyone loves a fillet bait.

With this moving bait philosophy, you will lose less tackle fishing since you don’t go near the ground. The idea is to be pulling through mid-water where the shad swim. This means you can fish over shallow ledges without hooking the rocks and losing your trace.
