Baitswimming
The faster you go, the shallower this rig will run. Until you reach enough speed (6 knots or up), and it becomes a surface swimming baitswimmer. Snaking and weaving in the wash and looking absolutely alive. When you get a strike on any of the other lines, and you slow down these baits present themselves as swim baits descending gently down into the blue. Where a second or third strike awaits. If you troll at 1 or 2 knots, you are mimicking a hapless, clueless and lost little flying fish in the blue. With a gentle swimming action, and lots of colour and flash. I have filmed flying fish underwater, and they really do swim a few metres under the water, until they are spooked and take to the surface and the sky.
Treble Hook
With this rig you do not have to gently feed the fish. The trace is specifically designed to be fished at about 2kgs of drag. And when a fish grabs ahold, he is immediately vas! And the 4x super-sharp trebles simply do not let go. We fish with little #4 trebles, easy to bury in the very end of the strip bait.
Versatility
As stated earlier, you don’t even need bait with this rig! Just troll it nice and fast, close to the boat, in the wash. But if you chuck one of these guys loaded with sardine at a shoal of shad off the beach, wind gently and hold on tight! Some big shad are around at the time of writing this. You can also happily and confidently fish a maasbanker, red-eye sardine, razorbelly, whiting, or cigar mackerel. Any of those small baits will fit snugly on this strip bait trace, and it will troll beautifully. Dead or alive, it will be swimming in the right place and be full of colour and flash.
