Description
Umzimkulu Estuary Fishing Party Boat (max 8)
Target gamefish in the Umzimkulu River in Port Shepstone. This healthy and heaving tidal river swells and drains with the tides that push through the Umzimkulu River mouth, flushing it out and carrying back in with it – all kinds of fish, bait and organisms.
Livebait is easily caught or netted, and is the effective option for hunkering down for the evening. We have a 26ft Cat with plenty space and cover, an ideal fishing platform. If you coming from Durban, bring crackers for all night action.
However, the big story has been on artificials lately, as the river has recovered and now encourages gamefish to visit, we have been having a blast trolling tiny plastic lures and Mydo Luck Shots. Kingfish have been marauding up and down past the mangrove associates looking for pockets of bait to ambush. Check this one from June 2017.
Those big prawns with the pincers have been prolific and can be seen cruising around the mudflats in the winter clean water. It’s like Mad Max underwater as they charge and chase eachother down.
In summer the water goes brown but it does not slow the fishing. Grunter, perch and rock salmon feed in the day and night in this water, you just got to get a decent live bait, or chuck out a sardine head with the guts hanging free for a good chance.
If your party is more than 8 pax, just get in touch and we can make adjustments to the overall price.
This trip is 6 hours in duration and involves a few stop-offs at Spillers and down at The Sandspit. A great fun way to get to know the Umzimkulu River and how it operates.
