Description
Umzimkulu Midweek Fishing Offer
Our all-new Umzimkulu Midweek Fishing Offer opens up the estuary and the lodge to you at the unbelievable price of R500 pp sharing for three nights including fishing. Starting on a Monday or Tuesday, this package will give your time to acclimatise with and learn the goings-on in and around the estuary mouth waters.
Estuaries are complicated pieces of water to fish. So by staying and fishing with us, you get the lowdown on conditions and the fishing, before you even start. Most times we will even have live bait waiting for your when you arrive.
Way better than a red carpet!
Tides
The best tides are the springs and fishing the incoming tide means all hands on deck. It’s non-stop fishing on this trip.
Fishing
Hunting live bait and spinning for gamefish that swim by as they complete circuits of the Umzimkulu Estuary racetrack.
Shoals and individual gamefish maraud up and down the channels at high speed. Hardly stopping for a second. Except to ambush some unlucky baitfish or prawn hiding in the shallows.
Sight fishing at its most challenging!
As an optional extra, we can also take the 26ft purpose rigged river cruiser that is more like an oil rig than a boat, or our stealth cabin boat, for a few hours at a time (*R50 per person per hour surcharge for guests staying with us).
The rest of the fishing time is spent at the various spots along the river bank at the lodge.
Lures
We fish all kinds of interesting and innovative lures. Luckily the MYDO Fishing Lure factory is right on the premises.
Poppers are great to avoid the luminous green sticky seaweed that abounds on the sandy bottom in some places. At some times. Otherwise, dropshots, bucktails and spoons are all on the menu as we move from area to area. Some spots are 10m deep!
MYDO Fishing Lures has a workshop here at the Umzimkulu Marina. And you can get your MYDO Estuary Pack and other MYDOs whilst you are here.
Check this video out for more about MYDO Estuary Pack. Which we highly recommend for fishing any estuary in Southern Africa.
Live bait
A live prawn is your guarantee for some action. Bring your cast net and license and catch them right here at the jetty. We bait the area beforehand and it is usually just one cast we need to get a few prawns or mullet.
