Advanced Surf Launching Course
Our advanced surf launching course is based on one thing. Giving you enough experience with which to make critical decisions in the surf zone.
This is a two week-long, practical, and hands-on instructional course. Your boat and venue anywhere in Southern Africa. Or ours (surcharge applies).
We will launch and retrieve a number of times. Through the various tides and weather conditions. You will be well versed in driving a boat through waves, by the time you are through.

Good day I just wanted to find out how wave sets generally work in Kzn / Moz as I now have a ski boat and want to surf launch safely, is there a standard number of waves ? then a quiet patch if so +- how many waves at a time before quite patch , your experience would be appreciated

Hi Chris. Ok, firstly, there are different types of swells. Some are long period, and other are short period. This is the gap between the waves. Characteristically, a south swell, or an Indian Ocean south swell particularly, has a long period swell, and has less set waves grouped together. So. Long gaps and easier launch. Then we have the short period swells. From the SE, or East. Usually from a cyclone, or a tropical depression hanging out off Madagascar somewhere. These are short period, sometimes down to 7 seconds, and are very difficult to negotiate from our south swell favouring beaches and points. The gaps between the waves are what dictate to you what you can do with your boat and where you can go in the surf zone. Long period swells, can be 16 seconds or more, giving you plenty room to breath. Short periods can be deadly, since coming from a close by cyclone, they can be big and nasty. Most times are. With an upswelling of colder water. Rather launch in warm south swells!
