News from the Natal South Coast is mainly about the shad. The sardines seem to have been propelled away by the huge seas, leaving hungry birds scouring the ocean…and of course…hungry shad.
Places like The Block in Port Shepstone are shoulder to shoulder with anglers…and they seem to all be getting their 5.
The ocean and SW winds are forecasted to back off over the next few days…maybe there will be a few shoals of sardines then?

Shad fishing South Coast style…
Anerley (pictured) on the Kwazulu Natal South Coast is one of the spots crowded out by keen shad anglers…as the shad hunt for sardines in and out of the turbulent bays caused by the massive ground swells pounding the coast.

The huge surf has made things difficult for the sardine netters – the odd boat being flipped in the shorebreak and stuff…but the shad are on the bite….and many are getting their quota easily…

Night time at any of these shad producing spots will be a good bet to throw a belly slide bait – targeting the huge Daga Salmon that feed on the shad.
Obviously, throwing any form of live shad is looking for trouble!
