Kids Catching Couta Off The Beach At BD and Shad Report KZN

Kids Catching Couta Off The Beach At BD and Shad Report KZN: we travelled all over the place for this report. Well, to Barthomew Diaz in Mozambique. And then in KZN as we hopscotch reports in from Port Edward and Port Shepstone…

Thank you Alan, Steven and Duarte for the information…

okay welcome back
Sardine news on a Saturday
let’s hope those nets are going in
everyone’s got some time on their hands
and anyway
the reports haven’t come in positive as of yet
I know that people are looking
and searching and waiting
and the water’s clean and the weather’s not too bad
but the boats aren’t around yet
but anyway let’s go to the shad section of the report
starting with Alan at Station Bay
pretty overcast at the moment
here’s some gaps
water’s a bit rough
breaking far out tides coming in
nothing happening here
boys are all enthusiastic
but I haven’t seen anything come out yet
the wind’s coming up just now so enjoy your day
thanks Alan
and now we’re gonna jet all the way down to Steven
in Port Edward thank you Steven
morning from Splash Rock
not too much action going on here
still got a big swell
and that southwest still blowing slightly
let’s hope it’s gonna turn northeast later on
maybe that’ll turn the fish on
and flatten the sea a little bit
and otherwise there’s not much else going on here
I’ve been watching for half an hour nothing
just big splashes like that one
okay have a good day everybody
tight lines
and now we’re going all the way up to Bartholomew Diaz
in Mozambique where there’s been big trouble there
these kids have been catching all the couta
off the beach yeah
just standing there
throwing their plugs into the into the out there
there’s no waves the water is clean and catching it
look at this this is it’s terrible
it’s really bad for the economy
because adults all around the place
everyone’s watching these videos
and checking these pictures
get sick from jealousy and envy
even Chelsea
she’s complaining big time about these kids
catching Couta at BD so anyway
we’re gonna ban it completely
none none of this we’re not having in fact
we’re considering banning kids from BD altogether
Chelsea agrees anyway uh
well done Duarte and Dario and we’re all so jealous
me in particular right
don’t forget
like and subscribe if you’re having fun here
just the like and the subscribe and the share is great
and then if you really think you’re having fun
then you can join the channel
keep this up thank you
Ciao ciao

it’s a great river
it’s got very good fishing alright
we’re going to start with our big fish
shad fishing expedition this morning Ciao
good morning from Orange Rocks
where there’s nothing happening
these guys are trying their hardest
so did we at the Block one guy got a fish
there is sardines out the back there
dolphins klapping them
must be some tuna behind that lot
good morning Splash Rock Port Edward usual traffic jam
on and off the rocks
sea looks absolutely beautiful today
been watching for a little while now
no shad come out
I will watch and report back tight lines everybody
okay well
we’re fishing in a secret spot
not gonna tell you where it is
but Emilio’s got one
and I got one on the little MYDO there
yes keep on using those baits
and then I got a much bigger one
with a double hook rig whole side
around the corner from Splash Rock to our right there
sea very choppy as you can see
no shad came out to either
Cheers from Port Edward tight lines
well it’s not all about shad too
it’s just all about game fish man
it’s a good time to be throwing a plug
or throwing a spoon or throwing a
a matter obviously
but yeah check this
like a snoek here in Port Shepstone
and then don’t forget that Garrick yesterday
fish are around boy that’s for sure
and finally
we’re at the whale deck where the East is pumping
water’s nice and blue
and it’s looking good for tomorrow morning
offshore in the morning onshore in the afternoon
late afternoon
we’re gonna get a buster from the south west

NSRI News: Gordon’s Bay and Hermanus Incidents

NSRI NEWS

NSRI News: Gordon’s Bay and Hermanus Incidents

NSRI News: Gordon’s Bay and Hermanus Incidents

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NSRI – STATION 9, Gordons Bay. STATION 17, Hermanus. STATION 19, Richards Bay.

NSRI – National – Monday, 28 July. Incidents – Gordons Bay, Hermanus, Richards Bay:

NATIONAL:

In 4 operations – A fishing craft, with 5 local fishermen onboard, was saved from sinking by NSRI Gordons Bay, offshore of Strand – A sailing yacht, with 2 crew onboard, was assisted by NSRI Gordons Bay after stranding on a sand bank near to Gordons Bay Harbour – A kite boarder, assisted by a Good Samaritan on a kayak on the Klein River Lagoon, were assisted ashore by NSRI Hermanus – and A sailing yacht, drifting shorewards with 7 crew onboard, was safely towed by NSRI Richards Bay to the Zululand Yacht Club in heavy sea conditions.

The swift response and cooperation of all involved in these operations is commended.

GORDONS BAY:

Brian Gosling, NSRI Gordons Bay duty coxswain, said:

At 09h30, Sunday, 27 July, NSRI Gordons Bay duty crew were activated following a request for assistance made to NSRI EOC (Emergency Operations Centre) from a local fishing craft reporting motor mechanical failure offshore approximately 3 nautical miles from Gordons Bay Harbour, 2 nautical miles offshore of Strand, with 5 crew onboard.

Our duty crew responded to our NSRI Gordons Bay station 9 rescue base to prepare to launch the NSRI rescue craft Spirit of Surfski.

While responding to our NSRI rescue base the fishermen reported that their craft was now taking on water from unknown causes and was at risk of sinking.

NSRI Simons Town were placed on alert to respond to assist if necessary.

NSRI Simons Town crew, at the NSRI Simons Town station 10 rescue base at the time, conducting routine training, readied the NSRI Simons Town rescue craft Donna Nicholas to respond to assist if it became necessary.

The NSRI Gordons Bay rescue craft Spirit of Surfski launched, accompanied with a water extrication pump.

With our NSRI rescue craft was nearing their location the casualty fishing crew deployed an orange distress smoke flare that aided us finding them swiftly.

We rendezvoused with the casualty vessel finding all 5 fishermen concerned but safe, all in good spirits and secured into their life-jackets, and appearing to be obviously relieved to have NSRI at their side.

3 of the fishermen were transferred onto our NSRI rescue craft and the remaining 2 fishermen, the skipper and a crewman, remained on their casualty craft assisting our NSRI crew to establish a towline.

While towing the casualty craft towards Gordons Bay Harbour the ingress of water that had accumulated onboard started to drain naturally preventing any further signs of sinking.

We towed the casualty craft to Gordons Bay Harbour, on reaching the harbour rafting our rescue craft alongside, successfully bringing their casualty craft into the harbour to the slipway where we assisted to recover the casualty craft onto their trailer and no further assistance was required.

NSRI Simons Town were notified that the rescue operation was successful and they resumed routine training exercises.

The operation was completed at 12h16.

GORDONS BAY:

Ryan Holmes, NSRI Gordons Bay station commander, said:

On Friday, 25 July, in the early hours of the morning, NSRI Gordons Bay crew had noticed a sailing yacht offshore of Gordons Bay Harbour that later, as daylight broke, appeared to be attempting to enter the harbour.

Just offshore of the SA Naval College they grounded in shallow surf and the alarm was raised.

At 07h55, our duty crew responded to our NSRI Gordons Bay station 9 rescue base and launched the NSRI rescue craft Rescue 9 Charlie, accompanied by an extra anchor.

On arrival on the scene we assisted the 2 sailors to secure their sailing yacht using their anchor and using the extra anchor that we had brought along.

Once their sailing yacht safely secured the 2 sailors stayed onboard their yacht while we returned to base at around 11h00, and later, at high tide, at around 12h51, we launched the rescue craft, Spirit of Surfski, and in the high tide attempts were made to get their yacht into Gordons Bay Harbour.

It appears that from the grounding of their sailing yacht their rudder had sustained damage disabling their ability to navigate.

Using our rescue craft we rigged a towline, NSRI crew were deployed onto their sailing yacht to assist, and we towed them into Gordons Bay Harbour mooring them at our NSRI rescue base where they will attend to repairs.

The operation was completed at 15h09.

HERMANUS:

James van Rensburg, NSRI Hermanus deputy station commander, said:

At 15h10, Friday, 25 July, NSRI Hermanus duty crew were activated following eyewitness reports of a kite-boarder appearing to be in difficulties on the Klein River Lagoon.

It appeared that the kite-boarder was drifting, unable to get her kite airborne.

Our duty crew responded to our NSRI Hermanus station 17 rescue base and dispatched our rescue vehicle, towing our NSRI craft Rescue 17 Bravo, while NSRI rescue swimmers responded to the scene.

A man, a Good Samaritan on a holiday from Plattekloof to Hermanus, on his kayak, had paddled out to assist the 54 year old female.

On arrival on the scene our rescue craft was launched and assisted the kite-boarder and the Good Samaritan, with his kayak, back to shore without incident and no further assistance was required.

The Good Samaritan that assisted, who, with his wife, were also the eyewitnesses that raised the alarm and remained in contact with NSRI while we were responding, giving regular updated information, are commended for their assistance.

RICHARDS BAY:

Norman Rautenbach, NSRI Richards Bay station commander, said:

At 23h36, Friday, 25 July, NSRI EOC (Emergency Operations Centre) and NSRI Richards Bay were alerted to reports, from OSASA (Ocean Sailing Association of South Africa) and from the Commodore of the Zululand Yacht Club of a sailing yacht in difficulties North of Richards Bay.

It appears that the local sailing yacht, with 7 crew onboard, had departed Richards Bay 2 weeks ago heading Northwards when they experienced motor mechanical failure and they had turned around, returning towards Richards Bay, but nearing Richards Bay, against strong South Westerly winds, gusting in excess of 15 knots and in 3 to 4 meter rough sea swells, they requested assistance 15 nautical miles North of Richards Bay – about 4 nautical miles offshore of the lighthouse.

Our duty crew responded to our NSRI Richards Bay station 19 rescue base where the NSRI rescue craft Ocean Guardian was launched.

On arrival on the scene a towline was rigged and we towed them into the Port of Richards Bay to a safe berth at the Zululand Yacht Club and they required no further assistance.

The operation completed at 03h38.

Flat Day Fun in Bazaruto

Flat Day Fun in Bazaruto

Flat Day Fun in Bazaruto: As the sardine season slowly winds down, we revert to reporting on the fishing and ocean conditions all around Southern Africa. And even some exotic locations all over the world.

Winter time is paradise in the Bazaruto Archipelago as weeks go by with perfect flat and calm seas…

Over to Duarte…fishing in Bazaruto Waters…

Bazaruto Fishing Report

After an unseasonal rather windy May and June, well at least for early winter, now that historically we should have the winds starting to show, this last week has seen some of the most beautiful days we have had this year.

Temperatures have dropped, some relatively cold and misty early mornings but when the sun gets higher it clears up and that winter light in calm flat seas when the sky and sea melt into each other are just utterly magical.

A week of flat calm seas…

Obviously, the temperature’s sudden drop has made for challenging fishing conditions but in these dreamlike light and conditions it is just a pleasure being out there.

Vamizi has been doing light tackle half days up north the last few days and catching some decent game fish and as with everybody been catching a few sailfish and also a couple small Black Marlin which seem to have finally started to show.

The boys from Inhassoro also reported a good number of juvenile Blacks up at the top on 25-mile reef, mostly being caught on torpedo scads. Their numbers should increase as we go into August and before the big girls arrive in September.

Another vessel also went deeper with the heavy tackle for a few days and seems there is a bit of a Blue Marlin bite out wide.

Although we did not see the usual numbers of juvenile Black Marlin the last couple of months (which are mostly a by catch on sailfish and wahoo lures), the last few weeks have seen their numbers increase and this should only get better as usually August is the best month to enjoy those fun light tackle fish before the big girls show for the start of the heavy tackle season from early September….

We fished on the 38ft DYR with Christopher Bettany and his gang which was great fun. Not reel screaming fireworks at all but good fun with great people who know fishing and the archipelago so well.

Bettany owns the well-known Azura Lodge on Benguerra Island and after a few challenging years recently re-open the famous (from past days) Azura Marlin beach Lodge on the south of the Island.

Fishing was slow as we trolled south but finally, we found some bait and we started getting into some action on the live jube jube´s.

Within 15 minutes after we put the first two livies out, the surface one got taken and we hooked and released a well above average size sailfish.

After a nice fight on the light tackle Christopher´s son Pirran released his first ever sailfish which will also go down as the first sailfish ever caught on from Azura Marlin Beach!

Pirran Bettany released his first ever sailfish estimated at over 45kg in a week of flat calm seas!

Not to be outdone, his other son Trennon, caught the biggest King mackerel of the day which was also a new record for the resort!

Off to Linene tomorrow, to fish a few days with Warren aboard Strenue, will probably mix it up a bit but certainly go out wide for Blues

Happy days…
