25 July 2024 The Sardine Run comes to Durban
The Sardine Run comes to Durban: a flurry of sardine activity in the last 24 hours leads to this jam-packed report about sardines being on the Durban beachfront right now.
Even though the water is still a toasty 23 degrees Celsius, it looks like some of our visiting sardines have had enough waiting for the Durban water temperature to drop. And are now playing the game.
The first report from the beach came in at 7h00…right from South Beach.
A few minutes later and another excellent clip of a net being deployed. With divers in action and the usual sweat and tears by the crew hauling that heavy net in and out all the time.
More boats have launched by this time and the first net is almost on the beach.
What’s inside?
Yesterday’s lovely net on the beach at South Beach in Durban yielded a proper haul of real Natal sardines. Not sure of the price at this late stage of the game. But if you live in Durban and have been waiting and waiting for the sards to come around that corner then this is your chance to strike.
