Description
MYDO SS Estuary Spoon 90
The MYDO SS Estuary Spoon: Swims like a butterfly, stings like a bee…
These are purpose-built, lightweight spoons for fishing estuary mouth areas. They are designed to work in the bubbles as clear blue water rushes in from the surf zone. Work super slow for kob. Superfast for garrick and kingfish. Dress them with a fillet and this is a nighttime dream lure. In as much as they are lighter, their aerodynamics make for enough distance in a cast, with the right rig. A 20 or 30lb outfit with casting braid will see you over the last breakers easily enough.
The MYDO SS Estuary Spoon differing actions
“If you think you are going slow, go slower.” is the mandate for kob fishing with lures at nighttime. Scraping the MYDO SS Estuary Spoon along the sand in the shore break zone is deadly. Juice up and it’s almost not fair.
A gentle and erratic action, with again a slower retrieve, sends that spoon into a butterfly-like flight with random direction changes and even turns back away from you again. This is great for yellowtail and garrick.
Take it up to a medium speed with the same erratic tip action and you will have shad and all sorts chasing you down.
Crank The MYDO SS Estuary Spoon fast on the top when gamefish come in crashing baitfish in the shallows. The hydrodynamic shape and hole placement makes for a huge splash as it burst along the surface.
Leaders
Wire is a must when the shad start going mad. Snoek also need some wire. And an inshore croc couta might also take a hold of your MYDO SS Estuary Spoon and then what? But ok. Nylon is much better. You get far more strike action. A solution is to go from your braid to fluorocarbon, then an alright special to a foot length of wire. That should keep most people happy.
It’s better to not have too long a leader for this kind of fishing, and you want to keep the leader knots out of the rod line guides. They last a lot longer like this. A 9ft or more flick stick means a metre and a half of leader is quite manageable.
Design and construction
Once the blades are cut and pressed, they go through a chemical coating to inhibit the inevitable rust. Rust jumps on stainless steel when attached or mixed with other metals. Especially other rusty stuff! The components we use are top-quality and highest strength we can buy. But they are not stainless steel. So if you get a few rusty stains, just rub the spoon in the sand like we used to in the old days (OG, I believe).
These smaller 90 model spoons have been tested up to 5kgs of drag and do not fail.
Juicing
I shouldn’t even tell you this winning strategy! But ok, if you cotton a sardine fillet into the concave inside of the spoon blade, you get yourself a huge advantage. A lure that swims and smells!
Nothing more to add…
