Praia do Tofo is a fantastically popular holiday town. It is filled with fun things to do and see. Dive with whale sharks, turtles, manta rays and dolphins. Catch a fish. Learn to surf. Ride a horse or a quad bike. Sail away on a dhow…the list is endless.

And then there is the cuisine and nightlife…restaurants line The Street of Joy, or Rua de Alegra, in the local lingo, Portuguese. There is a modern and smart hotel. A cool market where you can buy fresh produce, artwork or airtime! And parties are thrown each week at the various establishments along the beach.

The weather and ocean are user friendly right through the year. It’s an amazingly cool place.

Casa Frenzy is 3kms up the beach from Tofo Beach. It’s a great walk but to drive you do need a 4×4. The self catering house is beautiful. The open plan half double volume downstairs can be converted to sleeping quarters, bringing the total beds to 9. Two bathrooms cater for the traffic nicely. The water is drilled from 33m down, and is so good tasting. Solar lights keep us lit at night, and in the daytime a generator runs to power the fridges. It’s way in the bush but at least we are not on the grid!

Birds populate the skies and trees. The property has been well cultivated with local indigenous flora including huge cycads and aloes.

The houses are brick and mortar up until the first floor. And then a blend of local materials completes the house. The roof is made from locally produced grass and keeps you cool and looks great. The property is fenced with plenty of parking, and security guards are employed full time. Cleaning and washing can be arranged, cooking too. There is a cool braai just out the back door in an enclave of palms, milkwoods and white mangroves.

Upstairs is a large double room, a bathroom, and a lounge area that converts to a two sleeper instantly. Downstairs is another double room, a bathroom, and two sitting areas that convert to beds too. So a family or group of eight would find it quite comfortable. Hammocks hang in the outside kitchen balcony, and in the entrance shade. It’s a very congenial and happy house.

Next door is a lovely restaurant called Mango Beach. And the restaurants a short drive away in Tofo Town are just great.
