Where are the sardines today the 30 May 2023? Ok, here are today’s sardine reports and sightings as of 8am…the 30 May 2023.

Port Alfred: Today expecting the Kayser Beach shoal – or what is left of it

East London: also in the same situation as Port Alfred and Qhora – the waiting game is on

Qhora: Kevin has his eyes peeled and his decades of experience prove him right every time

Coffee Bay: with Mdumbi next door, is a hot spot for sardines every year. This year already has had some very exciting days. Nothing to report at the moment.

Port St Johns: holding on tight for the sardines too, some sightings far out but once again, very early for this far north

Natal: well, you never know! A pilot shoal might kick into high gear at the thought of all the predators chasing them, and pitch up on the south coast. Or even Durban sometimes gets an early appearance. This really sets the world on fire!

We log any and all validated sardine sightings on the Sardine Run 2023 Sardine Map. You can click on over to the map right here…

2023 Sardine Run Sightings Map

If you follow the sardines using the map, you will garner a great overall idea of where the sardines are and what they are doing.

At the moment we are tracking the Kayser Beach shoal. That’s reportedly also quite big and getting lots of attention from the birds and other marine predators at the party.

Humpbacks and Killer Whales

As of this year, we are also going to log sightings of whales and killer whales too. On the official 2023 Sardine and Sightings map. This extra element might also reveal some startling facts. Like the one about the two humpback whales pitching up at Tofo in Mozambique, and Mdumbi in the Transkei, on the very same day!

And the pod of killer whales that were interacted with by a team in Cape Town. Yesterday too!

We do have more interesting whale information for you to peruse whilst waiting for the sardines. Read that right here…in a post that also shows everyone how much fun an Ocean Safari with Umzimkulu Adrenalin actually is. Come and join us this year at the Umzimkulu Marina, where we have self-catering accommodation right on the Umzimkulu Rivers’s edge. Here in Port Sheptone where the sardines just love coming to visit each year. We can take you fishing or you can go catch your own shad with MYDO Fishing Lures.
