Team Stellenbosch

An onslaught of spearos and fishermen descended on quiet Tofo this week. The Stellenbosch University crew, headed up by Laurentius and Willem started with a bang, but the action steadily slowed as the SE wind dominated over the kinder offshore conditions.

The first day was conducted in a wild leftover swell and strong winds…far from ideal conditions. But the fish liked it and the tuna were jumping on the fast trolled rapalas. After three tuna we went for a dive that Willem wasted no time in and shot a kingfish in his first two minutes. Down at Praia da Rocha the reef is small and the fish were soon spooked, so that was the tally for the day.

The sea was much better the next trip but all we could muster was a single leatherjacket by Frikkie. The third day was even worse and although the skipjack tuna were jumping about the boat, we never raised one, so went snorkelling around clownfish reef.

We have one more trip scheduled so check back soon…
