Mdumbi and Beyond Brucifire Surf Report 12 May 2021

Brucifire!

Bruce is taking this project very seriously and if you check the dates, all of this happened over the last one single week. A week in the life of Brucifire included an entertaining sojourn to the Wild Coast. Mdumbi is deep Transkei and it’s a massive heave from Jbay (or anywhere for that matter).

Things always happen on these trips. And this was no exception as the Benz (Brucifire’s preferred cabbie), suffered too much abuse and gave up right at the start! But they got going again, an event in which Brucifire met an old mate from 30 years ago. Charlie Lister, Springbok rugby player from way back then, paid a visit to Jbay and met Bruce in the dunes!

Springbok rugby player Charlie Lister met Brucifire at JBay 30 years ago. Charlie stopped by to help the stricken travellers negotiate their way out of Cookhouse. Where Charlie now farms. Pot luck pal!

The adventure unfolds just as you would expect it to, eventually arriving at their destination in the twilight zone. Where the crew seemed to stay for quite some time.

Only surfacing for a surf or two and some candid moments teasing the locals about their undersized wares. It should be noted however that the Poensie starring in a major role – was size. These fish are legal at 50mm. And although not encouraged, there is not much else you can do once it’s dead, but eat it!

Mdumbi Backpackers at mdumbi.co.za put up the show and put up with the crew too. Scaring the physio girls is one of Brucifire’s favourite flat-day-fun things to do. But ok, one thing was for sure, the waves back in JBay were calling. Had our surfers stayed a little longer, in the twilight of the Transkei, they might have seem Mdumbi do it’s JBay impersonation.

But at the crack of dawn on Monday, the caravan left town.

And headed for Dodge.

Where the waves were actually cooking for some!

The waves have also come to the KZN coast and many yarns can be heard in the usual carparks. Stay in touch and follow Brucifire by subscribing to this channel by clicking right here.
