It’s Wahoo time!
The Wahoo are seasonally featuring in catches up and down Southern Africa’s eastern seaboard. Jason Heyne’s Spearfishing report for the KZN area has been full of big ‘hoo and up north on Bazaruto, Captain Duarte Rato has been tucking in.
Wahoo live out deep but do come right in, to the shallows on occasion. The best way to pick a fight with a Wahoo is a live bonito. A big one. Number 12 wire droppers, number 8 trace at least. 5x Trebles. Nose to tail. Just chuck it in and hold on tight!
This fish by Marc Lange was caught a decade back when Marc used to jack the NSB meshing boat to go fishing every day?!
It was caught on a big live bonito off Umzumbe on the lower KZN South Coast.
