Surfing at Mfazazana, on the lower south coast, today, I was privileged enough to see 5 garrick careening down a wave my friend Craig was paddling for. They were big fish and looking rather excited – the entire session was peppered with fleeing baitfish and chases.
So, to mark the start of the garrick season…a blast from the past, a video…garrick fishing at it’s finest, at the Umzimkulu River mouth, a few years ago…
BTW…no real sign of sardines yet, although the ocean has livened up with birds scarpering in all directions, and fishermen the other. A few false alarms too, but we cannot deny, that conditions are finally favourable, for the sardines to make an appearance.
