“Keep the line tight! Keep the line tight!”, I have screamed over and over, in my life. I have actually gotten into trouble for my manic behaviour when someone on the boat is fighting a fish. I get hysterical when I see slack line.
Slack line means the hook is hangin’ free, and the fish can shake it clear with one quick good bye. Fish gone. After all the time, money and effort it takes to get out there, to lose a fish without even a photograph, has to be avoided at all costs.
Luckily we can introduce Johan Wessells, of The Fishing Pro Shop in East Pretoria, who penned up for us, a comprehensive description of how and why, when it comes to tussling big, clever gamefish. We even have some video of Johan fighting a fish aboard The Niteshift, a short while back – practising vividly, what he preaches.
