Last week’s spearfishing report

The diving conditions were not great at the start of the week but it really improved through the week.
There was loads of action on the south coast and some great king mackerel are coming out on the north coast. Saturday there is a cold front with a fresh south west forecast and swell picking up during the day. Sunday a light west will blow most of the day with the swell running at 1.5m. So it looks like Sunday is the best bet for a dive unless u can get in early bells before the wind on Saturday. Good luck to everyone who is participating in the Wahoo winter gamefish comp at Cape vidal. As always dive safe and straight spears.

Sardine Run Spearfishing action by Jason Heyne

Sardine Run Spearfishing action by Jason Heyne

How about this for some serious Sardine Run Spearfishing action, reported in by Jason Heyne?

“Diving conditions have been great this week.

Loads of winter fish are holding in the shallows. Bad news is a big south west is blowing already and will continue through Saturday bringing 3m swell from the Cape. Wind drops off late Saturday with a light offshore blowing Sunday morning and a 1.6m swell running. There was great viz both north and south coasts today. So it looks like Sunday may be diveable if you don’t mind a bit of surf. Try hang as shallow as possible to intercept dagas, yellowtail, garrick and snoek. Some big king mackerel have been coming out in the deep. Natal champs has been postponed due to the weather. As always dive safe and straight spears.”

Thank you Jason!

KZN Spearfishing report

KZN Spearfishing Report

“KZN Spearfishing Report” by Jason Heyne

Once again, the ever consistent Sardine correspondent Jason has compiled a gallery and synopsis of what has been happening in the water up and down the KZN coastline.

The sea conditions this week have been average after the first big winter cold front with game fish being sporadic.

“The predicted east hardly blew today (Friday). An off shore wind with a 1.5m swell is predicted for Saturday with the swell picking up in the afternoon and some large swell on the lower south coast. The swell jacks Sunday with a light offshore in the morning. So it looks like Saturday is the day. There was viz reported on the south and north coast today. Garrick are thick on the south coast with some bomber snoek patrolling the back line”

As always dive safe and straight spears.

Double Spearfishing Report for KZN

Double Spearfishing Report for KZN

Jason Heyne comes through with a double whammy of a Spearfishing report for the last two weeks…

“Sorry cell was stolen last week Friday

We have had epic diving conditions this week the bad news is the 1st big cold front of winter is pushing through now as I write this. Buster south westerly Saturday with big swell the wind drops off on Sunday but the sea probably won’t have settled enough for a dive. Good news is the winter gamefish run is on! Decent fish have been shot the last two weeks. As always dive safe and straight spears.”

Spearfishing by Jason Heyne

"Ha ha, a very late Spearfishing report by Jason Heyne. Our servers have been battling to keep up with all these big couta stories?! But at if today we are back, and boy oh boy, do we have news coming up…" Shonalanga

Over to Jason…

The sea conditions have been average this week. Today (Friday) the sea flattened out nicely with some decent viz on the south coast and an average of about 5m viz on the north coast. The weather gods are smiling on us this weekend with a light offshore on Saturday and a light north east on Sunday and the swell starting at 1.5m on Saturday dropping off to 1m come Sunday. Good news is that the winter fish are gathering off Transkei coast and will be heading up the coast soon. A very large King Mackerel was caught off a ski today in excess of 45 kg! Both Saturday and Sunday are looking great for a dive. As always dive safe and straight spears.
