March/April ‘Cuda report plus spearfishing

March/April ‘Cuda report plus spearfishing

The ‘Cuda have made their annual pilgrimage to down south and some great catches are filtering through.

The first real action was by Happy Hooker who got two proper fish, nice and early on. Way down off Seaprk somewhere. Then the Niteshift got one in the same place the following weekend. Story and video here.

Matt Wainwright then got a live mackerel down the gullet of a nice fish. His fish came in at 15kgs.

But Dave Phillips off Durban has been having the most fun. On his ski. On his first submission he flashed us his first ‘Cuda of the season. A really nice fish seen below. Then a few fays later, Dave banged it out there for another ‘Cuda and three Natal Snoek! The Snoekies couldn’t resist Dave’s little Mydo SS Shad spoon.

Hopefully this weather will improve and we can expect some more ‘cuda action this April.

And then over to the spearos, who have also been seeing a few.

‘Couta in the news underwater too…report by Jason Heyne

The diving conditions have average this week with one or two day’s being excellent. Wahoo, ‘couta and snoek are the main fish on the menu this week and rumours have it that the garrick are off the kei.  Well done Wickus on getting fish of the week a new HUC club record Queen Fish at 10.47kg. As always dive safe and straight spears

Lady spearo Lizzy features in this weeks spearfishing report

Lady spearo Lizzy with club merit fish of the week

Lady spearo Lizzy features in this weeks spearfishing report

The diving conditions have been great this week but the water has been cold. The key to finding the fish is finding warmer water preferably 23 c plus. Some really decent GT’S and spannish mackerel are coming out.  Saturday a moderate southwest wind blows all day with the swell running at 1.6m. Sunday the southwest freshens early at 20knts plus gusts and a fair sized  2.5m swell . So Saturday looks good If you don’t mind the wind. Well done Lizzy one of our new lady members on getting club merit fish of the week with a fair sized yellow belly and well done Andrew getting fish of the week with a bus GT. As always dive safe and straight spears.

KZN spearfishing weekly

Well the diving conditions improved a lot this week. Some good ambers are coming out and the odd bigger couta but no Croc couta yet. Saturday starts with a moderate southwest wind and two meter swell which both drop off later in the day. Sunday starts with a light northeast wind and 1.7m swell and both wind and swell pick up during the day. Please note big storm Friday evening which may adversely affect the sea conditions. Club merit fish of the week goes to Marco with a decent Dorado and fish of the week goes to Gavin with a 20kg amber! As always dive safe and straight spears.

Spearfishing Inhassoro

Report weekly KZN Spearfishing

Spearfishing Inhassoro

Spearfishing Inhassoro means spearfishing the reefs, canyons, pinnacles and drop offs all about the northern boundary of the Bazaruto National Park Reserve. Where spearfishing is legally allowed.

And super hot. These waters are literally miles from anywhere. Miles from civilised markets.

It comes right up in many of these places. To the surface!

  • We need three divers together to make this trip a reality. If you have more up, the price drops per person.

Itinerary

Fly in to Vilankulos, and we will fetch you by boat or overland 4×4. Inhassoro is a quick and fun few hours away, depending on transport mode.

Cabins are beautiful, cool and spacious. And the boat moored out from in full view.

The beach bar and restaurant looks out over Bazaruto Island. And is a great shelter from the inevitable onshore.

6 nights and 7 days give us enough time to maximise on all the diving options available in these fish rich waters. 35 Boat hours are allotted. More hours are available if the weather says so too. We always have fishing rods if you want to catch and release a marlin or two.

This is a catered trip. Breakfast early or on the boat. Boat lunches. Seafood dinner. Water and cooldrinks. Byo snacks and booze.

Program

Day 1: acclimatisation and gear preparation. Welcome dinner.

Day 2: assemble for coffee and breakfast first light. If conditions are right, depart with the sunrise. Hunt fish and explore all day. Return at sunset.

Day 3: as in Day 2, until 35 hours are spent.

And so on…

With…

Weather day options: head to Bartholomew Diaz for an unforgettable wild estuary experience. Or. Take 4×4 track through untamed African bush to Vilankulos. Lunch at the famed Bella Donna Hotel. Where Bob Dylan spent three years of his composing life. Mick Jagger. And even the Kennedies partied here. Or. Enjoy the quaint town of Inhassoro. Market. Beach bars. Characters.

Day 6: Leaving party

Day 7: Back to Vilankulos. Fly straight back into the first world (flights not included).

Spearfishing Barra and Tofo

Spearfishing Vilankulos will get you plenty of king makerel attention

Spearfishing Barra and Tofo

Spearfishing Barra and Tofo waters. There are plenty of reefs to explore in this vaste area. From the fabled Manta Reef down at the south extreme of our zone, to very far north. 40 Miles far in fact! And dotted all in between are the reefs that make this area a favourite for so long.

As the Mozambique current rubs up against the continental shelf a few clicks off the coast, Marlin and sailfish swim by. Wahoo. Tuna…all found in these jagged bottom waters. In the shallows we can find all sorts including kingfish, king and queen mackerel, cobia and the like. So many species here!

Accommodation is in nice big houses, down the beach in Tofo. Boats launch out front, or over at Barra, a 20-minute tow away. We can also stay out a few days, staying at Linga Linga, Massinga or Pomene (surcharge applies), if you like.

This price is for 7 days and 6 nights. You have the boat and guide for 35 hours in total for the week. That’s a lot of time out there, you can also use the boat for going to town, or the islands. There is great snorkelling and spearing right in the Inhambane Bay in some places. Extra boat hours are available on request.

All meals and cooldrinks/waters are included. Three meals a day. Coffee and tea. BYO snacks and booze.

BYO equipment and spares. You will need longer guns and ropes. Heavier duty stuff that can hold onto the bigger fish we are going to encounter. BYO spinning sticks and fishing tackle for extra value.

This tour is available all year. The best times are in summer. Pricing is based on a group of four, which is the minimum. If your group is less or more, then we can adjust the pricing accordingly.
