MYDO Bluefin Bomber Baitswimmer
MYDO Bluefin Bomber Baitswimmer: decades of research and development right on the water, have led us to this – the pinnacle of big game fishing rigs. A Bluefin Bomber led with 300lb Nylon, a big single for the front. And telescopic double-wire droppers to the chemically-sharpened 5X wire trebles.

Big Baits for Big Fish
This baitswimmer will swim a bluefin tuna bait perfectly. A small king mackerel. A little yellowfin. Bonito. A bait up to about 3 kilograms. This is the sized bait that big fish eat. The fish need to work out an equation for each bite they take vs the energy expended to get that bite. So a big fish will much prefer a decent bite.
Rigging Options
The big leader and wire option as described above, can be ordered fully-assembled right here. Or you can see exactly how to make your own on our YouTube Channel. Here is the LINK. This is the rig used by David Kosta to catch his Mediterranean Bluefin Tuna.
Bluefin tuna hit hard. There is no dilly-dallying around in this strike behaviour. They absolutely smash into baitfish. Often leaving the water completely during the attack. Wire is not ideal for tuna. And using trebles for releasing fish, is also not ideal. So to make a custom trace for bluefin tuna fishing only (as in no couta or wahoo are around), you can use nylon all the way through. For marlin we run 400 lb leaders. The 300 lb we use on the MYDO HD Gamefish Trace, will suffice for most billfish too. And it would seem that 300 lb will work for most bluefin (or yellowfin) tuna. Running a big tuna hook, on nylon, and hooking that into then skin of the bait, or sewing it on, will produce a cooking tuna bait. That will work for billfish too, especially Broadbill Swordfish down deep. Another handy use for these big Baitswimmers, is using them as downplaners. This works great as can be attested to by this fish by Mark White in Cape St Frances waters out deep. He got this bluefin tuna, and a broadbill, on his MYDO downplaned squid bait. He also lost another broadbill. All on the same day!
Speed
The right bait, rigged right, will literally come alive in front of your eyes. And the longer and slimmer the bait, the faster you can go. Up to 5 or 6 knots or more. You could put a huge walla-walla (cutlass fish) into your spread under your konas. Wolf-herring also work great like this – they are tough enough to survive the water pressure. Unlike a sardine. Which just melts off if you go too fast. Other best baits include whiting, bluefish (shad), mullet, rainbow runner, mackerel (all of them), goatfish…and with very little fuss, you can rig a big old chokka bait – a squid of like a kilogram or more, to dance in the wake for you.
